Merged ticket by foXen with this one. Ok, my current idea is to make a renderer configurable:
Option 1: Render original name, type, text and original flavor. Will be forced to use the default font for non-english cards.
Option 2: Render latest English oracle name, type, text for all languages + English flavor (only for English cards).

Well your font "Platin" seems to have all diacritical characters needed. So this one could be used with any (west-)european language. The same should be OK for "Matrix" as you seem to use it just for (sub-/super-)typ.
Only 'Magic Medieval'-font is bit more limited, but it should also be OK as long as you use it with the card name.
So it should be fine to use original name, type, text and flavor also with your fonts.

But for russian, korean, japanese and chinese it could indead be the best way to just use the default system font - as long as noone gives you any extended fontversion. And just give them an option, to get rendered with english texts...

As far as Cyrillic text goes, the closest thing I've found (among free open-source fonts) is Free Serif. It is available for download here - http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/freefont/

In conclusion to my above thoughts, I would modify them to:

1. Render always original name, type, text and flavor. Will be forced to use the system default font for cn, jp and ru cards.

2. Render latest english oracle name, type, text and flavor for cn, jp and ru cards.

That way everybody will get an adequate output if they also have some russian cards in their inventory also the users first language is spanish.
This may not be true for older systems as I don't know if the sysfont of win2k has unicode chars in. So for those users may be option 2 an alternativ while most will be fine with option 1.

For russian cards you could use Free Serif. It's not very accurate in comparison to paper cards, but it's free (licensed under GNU GPL) and looks better than Arial.
For Japanese you could use TITUS Cyberbit Basic (free for non-commercial use). Again, not very close to paper cards, but better looking.

I love the "copy image to clipboard" feature currently supported by MA. I'd really like to be able to use this feature to capture rendered foreign cards for printing proxies that we don't have in HQ.

I like the idea of having an option in the program preferences; It would fit nicely below the current option "Fallback to English picture if none for correct language" as "Use English text in the Rendered Picture tab"

I notice that MA downloads Arial Unicode as part of the installation. This font does contain Japanese, Chinese, and Russian characters which should work sufficiently for rules text.

For flavor text however, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, and Korean italics present problems. Some free unicode fonts offer a faux (skewed) italic version, which may suffice. I think just using two different unicode fonts will work (considering what's avaliable), something with variable stroke thickness to contrast Arial's uniform-stroke Eastern characters. Bitstream Cyberbit perhaps?

Implemented in r311.
All cards in "Rendered Picture" pane will be rendered using their original text.
When printing proxies oracle text will be used instead.
