Incantus will attempt to download card images from Wizards' website of the cards in both decks (this is why it might seem to freeze in the beginning). The images are downloaded using the following URL: http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/general/%s.jpg, replacing %s with the card name (for example http://www.wizards.com/global/images/magic/general/Honor_Guard.jpg)

Unfortunately, Incantus isn't yet set up to use the MWS HQ images, but you can get a version suited for Incantus here:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?iydal13nhjy
password is 'magic'

Just place the card_images.db file into the data folder. This file contains card images for all cards supported by incantus.

General playing:

'n' - Start a new game
'q' - Quit
'Enter' - usually to pass priority, accept a selection, or accept a dialog
'Esc' - cancel action, cancel dialog option
'f' pass priority for your turn as long as the stack is empty
F2/F3 to set priority stops
F1 full screen

right click on card to magnify card
right click and drag playfield to move playfield
middle click and drag playfield to quickly resize playfield
scroll wheel on playfield to slowly resize playfield

when you play a card or ability, hold down control while doing it to keep priority.

Your status is in the lower left and the opponents in the upper right. The stack is in the upper left.

You can edit incantus.ini to set up the decks you will be using. Try making a simple deck with a few cards (the format is compatible with Apprentice's dec and MTGO's format) and adding a few Betatester Toolbox cards (which will let you play around, since it has about 10 different testing abilities and is 0 cost).

If you play Betatester Toolbox you will see it appear on the stack. Hit enter once (to pass opponent's priority) and the card will be played. You can also play a Land card. Once you've played Betatester Toolbox, click on it to play an ability (a good one is Deal 1 damage to your opponent). Click on your opponent's heart to select him. Activate this ability 3 times and you'll see it on the stack 3 times (control clicking while playing a card/ability will retain priority). If you right click and hold a card on the stack you can expand it (also cards in play and your hand). This time use the up or down arrow keys to scroll through the abilities/spells on the stack. Play some other cards, then destroy them (with Betatester Toolbox). When you click and hold on the graveyard the cards inside that zone will pop up (top one first). Right now you also click on the library icon (it's viewable by default for gold-fishing games).

Now play a creature. If a card has a mana cost, you can click any card that has a mana ability (Betatester can add WWWWWBBBBBUUUUURRRRRGGGGG to your pool) to get mana and then spend it on the card. If the mana cost isn't simple then your mana pool will pop up to ask you to select which mana you want to use. Click on a mana symbol to add that type, and right-click to subtract one of that type. You have to pay the exact amount requested, and then hit enter. Manaburn is turned on by default - to disable it for testing purposes just edit your incantus.ini file.

That's it. You can try the default 10E decks that are included (in the decks subdirectory - edit incantus.ini to set the deck that you will use and your opponent will use). "small_deck.txt" is used to test cards. You can also set up your default priority stops for both your turn and during your opponent's turn. The computer will automatically pass priority for unset stops as long as the stack is empty.

If you get a crash, zip up the Incantus.exe.log and game.replay files and post what you were doing to the board.

New version with a bunch of fixes (requires the main download above - this just includes a new exe file and cards.db file). The cards.db file should be placed in the data directory.

New version of the Elves vs Goblins demo that fixes the annoying P/T bug.

I might release a package with a fixed cards.db to account for various code changes later.

I've been slowly rebuilding Incantus's rules engine so that I can implement many more effects (and to be more rules accurate), but as a teaser, here's the new version with two eventide sample decks implemented (the RW and GU ones). The only card that isn't fully implemented is Invert the Skies, since I don't have a way to remove a specific ability yet (but it still adds flying to your creatures if you paid U).
