Black text, for those using modern-frame mods
by Korath » 24 Jun 2013, 05:54
I still intend at some point to do a proper rewrite of Drawcardlib.dll in my copious free time (rarity symbols! more frames! and a pony!), but since someone asked nicely, here is a horribly crude hack to make the title, type line, and power/toughness black.
Both versions prevent the white text for these three lines from showing on large cards, displaying only the drop shadow (which aligns better with the mana symbols and image/text boxes, at least with the font I'm using), and darkens the drop shadow slightly.
The second also removes the drop shadow of the title text on small cards and makes the default text color black. I'm unimpressed with how this looks when the title's highlit yellow or orange, hence the version that doesn't touch it. (The yellow and orange text colors can be changed, too, without especial effort.)
It's late here, so I'll let someone else deal with screenshots and such. Thankye.
---
With Showdown's Modern Frames mod:
(I now see that his mod doesn't include the little box for power and toughness, so it's essentially invisible on the black cards. Probably best to make a version where the p/t numbers are left untouched in white w/black shadow.)
---
Not recommended for old-style frames; nor for modern frames without the text bars (as with Sonic's Manalink3 Makeover, displayed below):
Current:
Large cards only
All black

Nice, although what font do you use so I can check the screenshots accordingly.

hmm i dont have that button on my keyboard but anyways. i tried to edit in the bottom border in but as you can see the text is down to far is there a way to move that up or should i just not be so picky and drop it down?

Not easily. It could be moved about 2 or 3 pixels up and left, by drawing the text in white that was in white in black instead and removing the drop shadow, instead of removing that text and leaving the drop shadow. I don't think it'll be enough to matter, though. It also won't work with the leave-the-small-card-titles-white version, if anyone cares.
And I assumed the reason that there was no power/toughness background bar was because it'll show up on the non-creature cards, too. That's definitely not something that's fixable before a real rewrite, as opposed to no-opping a couple bytes in the executable.

Yes, frames are handled by drawcardlib.dll, and adding the Ravnica hybrid frames will be one of my primary goals when I get around to rewriting it.

Whilst we’re all waiting with baited breath for Korath’s Drawcardlib.dll update… Well I know I am.
I thought I’d post some interim card templates to take advantage of his minor hack to the large card text. These new templates include P/T boxes, so now the black P/T text should be easier to see.
Anyway, give them a try – and don’t forget to install the included fonts and the Duel.dat for the best effect.
Have fun… Sonic
