Drafting 2.0 is here
by jatill » 12 May 2009, 17:44
I have re-implemented Drafting for manalink, and this time everything you need is built into the magic program!
Here's all you need to do:
1) Download and install this patch like any other update. http://www.savefile.com/files/1997761
2) Create a deck with any junk and put the 'draft' card into it.
3) Go to duel, and give you and your opponent the draft deck. After mulligans, the draft should begin. (Alternatively, you can just debug the draft card into play)
4) Concede the game.
5) Your deck is saved as Draft Human (0), and your draft opponents are saved as Draft Opponent 1-7. The numbers in parenthesis are the scores for their deck (higher is better). Go ahead and edit your deck to remove the junk and add lands.
6) Play duels!
7) After you're done playing, you'll probably want to delete the decks out of the Magic\Playdeck folder.
Enjoy, and please report any draft problems here.
Edit: Also, I wanted to thank Snacko for giving me a metric ton of technical advice to get this working. I wouldn't have been able to do it without his help.

Ok so I made a deck with the draft card and I gave it to myself and the opponent. The draft worked just like you said I did enforce rarity, picked the packs and then the cards. After the whole cycle finished I could not find the deck in the Playdeck folder or in the game. I clicked on the end turn button than another cycle of the draft started. Am I doing something wrong?

After you do the draft, concede the game. Then go to the deck editor and build your deck (adding lands, etc). When you go back to duel, your deck and all the opponent decks should be in the list of decks to play. They should also be in the playdeck folder, of course.ZyniX69 wrote:Ok so I made a deck with the draft card and I gave it to myself and the opponent. If you don't see the decks there, do you see packs.txt in c:\magic?

What if you don't have it in c:\magic, the paths should be relative.

Yes packs.txt Is in my C:\Magic folder, and I can see a couple of drafts in there. Ok so I started a new draft, after it was over I conceded and then went directly to the deck builder. That was empty. Then I exited it and tried to make a solo game, no new decks visible. Also, in the last Draft the Rules Engine card popped up 3 times.
Heres my packs.txt info incase it will help:

Whoa, that file is huge. No need to post the text, it doesn't help me. You can delete that thread if you want.
I have no idea why one file would write and another wouldn't. Which operating system do you use?

Ok, I uploaded a new version. Download that one and run a draft. It should put the .dck files into c:\magic (in addition to playdeck). So worst case, you can copy the files to from directory after you draft. Let me know if that works. I also took the scores out of the opponent deck names, just in case having parens in a file name was the problem.ZyniX69 wrote:I am using Vista 32bit (which sucks at most everything)

hmmm I seem to get shortchanged.
Inforce Rarity, all cards
4 Thieving Magpie drafted -> 2 in Deckbuilder
2 Battlegrace Angel -> 1
3 Lightning Angel -> 1
2 Courier's Capsule -> 1
2 Mahamoti Djinn -> 1
2 Oversoul of Dusk -> 1
odd. other than that it works great.

Was this all in 1 draft? One thing that comes to mind is that after each pack there is a 'review your picks' screen that looks a lot like the 'pick a card' screen. You may think you're picking the card again even though you're just reviewing it.scherbchen wrote:hmmm I seem to get shortchanged.

yes, you were correct. my bad for not paying attention
btw I love the customization options you have built into the draft. Enforce Rarities and Post Mok Cards x 3 can be quite the challenge and tons of fun.
