Cool elves, golblins & stuff but no cool dwarves or orcs

Postby 0rion79 » 12 Jan 2011, 12:23

Just a minor topic here to ask if in the latest sets WotC has ever printed any cool dwarf or orc creature. Until now, we have a lot of good cards for other tribe decks, but not for dwarves and orcs, which are a "must-have" in any good fantasy environment :)
PS: is there any white counterpart for Malakir Bloodwitch?

No, and no. I hear Baneslayer Angel is pretty good, though.

I don't know anything about the recent sets beyond what's coded in manalink, but The Dark had some orcs and Fallen Empires had some dwarves and orcs. There were also a few in alpha. Dwarven Miner was probably my favourite dwarf and Orcish Lumberjack my favourite orc.

Thanks.
@Jatill, about angels I ment something specular like Black Knight and White Knight. So, even if Baneslayer Angel is damn good is not specular to Malakir Bloodwitch. it is like if the had broken a tradition.

@aww1979, I also know cards from the Dark but, if you compare latest elves or zombies with the ones from Fallen Empires or The Dark, you have to admit that the old ones (including the nice Dwarven Soldier) are obsolete and almost not competitive at all.

They basically hardly support those creature types now.

But as time has gone on new creature types have gotten the spotlight and a bunch of playable cards in a block.

Zendikar block gave Vampires a competitive deck.

Lorwyn block gave Faeries a competitive deck.

Both of those tribes while having always had a few cards now and again was never considered "good enough" to play with as a tribe.

Instead, I did U_U
With a bit of imagination, I've built semi-competitive tribe decks with a logic. ;)
Thanks for answering, anyway!

After a short search on Gatherer...
Duergar Hedge-Mage
Dwarven Recruiter
Balthor the Stout

Orcish Lumberjack
Orcish Settlers
Orcish Squatters
Sek'Kuar, Deathkeeper
That's all.... the best of the best, for me. Most likely, they will add some nice of them at the right time.

I remember Orcish Settlers being quite popular in my playgroup a few years ago. Actually that was MANY years ago :)

Orcish Lumberjack is quite nice too. Don´t care too much about the others to be honest.
Retired a long time ago. I will not reply.
