HighRes Widescreen & Standard 4:3 Graphic Update v1.2

Postby Sarlack » 06 Jun 2012, 04:39

Hi everybody
I created a set of new graphics for Manalink 3.0.

Includes new...
1. widescreen & Standard4:3 main menu with animated buttons
2. pop up option windows
3. modern card frames (eighth edition) & classic frames (4th edition)
4. play-fields with 2 images & one mana symbol pattern per color
5. new graphics that appear on top of the card such as counters and abilities
6. All magic fonts
7. I will be rendering a new coin toss animation in the future, i have to reinstall my 3d program.
8. ManaLink gem

Instruction:
| Open
There are 5 folders and one zip file with all the fonts in the zip you will download.
First step is to extract the AllMagicFonts.zip from the zip and then extract the fonts to a separate folder.
Then copy all the fonts to your font folder inside windows (c:\windows\fonts) you don't need to overwrite fonts if they are already installed.
In the DuelArt folder there is a duel.dat file which i use to load the fonts into the game, you can also set the size if the fonts seem too big or small.
I use a 60in HD TV as my monitor so I set them a little smaller.
If you do not want to use the new fonts, DON'T overwrite the duel.dat file that is already in the folder.
Copy the 4 folders into the magic root. (CardArt, DuelArt, ManaLink & ShellArt)

Instructions for Card Frames:
| Open
In the zip there is a folder called "SarlackCardBacks". Inside this folder there are two sub folders, "Classic" & "Modern".
Copy the files from either one of the folders into the "CardArt" folder.

Notes about duplicate files and Shadalar:
| Open
I had a friend copy the folders and overwrite what was there and there were some duplicate files (pic & bmp with the same filename).
The game might load the old file. see the screenshot for all needed file.
I would delete or move any files that are not in the list unless you play Shandalar which I think only loads the .PIC extension.
If there is only a .BMP for the file Shandalar is looking for it will not load anything as it is looking for a .PIC
Magic.exe looks for some files in .BMP, so if they are all named .PIC the game will error on missing files.
If you play Shandalar you should be able to make a copy of all the .BMP files and change the extension to .PIC

Version History:
| Open
New in V1.1

Standard 4:3 screen size now available
ManaLink gem

Very nice.

I suggest mediafire or skydrive as host, their are free and are a bit less prompt to delete content on a whim.

Great work Sarlack thanks for the new look.
It seems we have very talented designers that provide us with artwork for every taste.
I believe somebody has though to put all the graphic updates (full or partial)(yours,Shalbei,Mathusalem,Althuna,Sonic and others that I may forget)to the appropriate files like it was before with - original,Shalbei,Mathusalem so everything is together and people can choose or modify what they like easily.

Mediafire that I use is free and easy to use.

Edit-I still find very bright the cardartwork especially the headline where the name is and it makes it hard to read.Maybe you can darken it a bit for the computer game.

Wooooh! I want this! Please upload ASAP! :D

Ya, Jag is right about the title bar... should be darker, about the same color of the rest of the template.

Thx, I will make the standard size sometime soon. The widescreen will work on 4:3. The main menu and the background images with stretch, but the rest of the graphics should load correctly.

Wow! Quite nice indeed. I love that you've changed nearly all of the extraneous graphics. It definately gives Manalink 3.0 that much-needed facelift. I especially like the new graphics for the phases (both turn and combat), the new abilities\tokens graphics, as well as the "summoning sickness" graphic... very slick.

I don't really care for the new-card look so I'm sticking with one of Sonic's replacements from a few months ago (yours look great, I'm just an old-timer). Hopefully you'll consider creating a standard 4:3 set for those of us who prefer that aspect (I really don't play anything but old games, so 4:3 is an absolute must). I don't own a widescreen monitor, so I took it to work and checked it out during lunch... quite impressive. All circular background objects were still slightly ovalish and I could do without the hyper-commercial DotP artwork for all the backgrounds, but they do look really nice... and everybody recognizes the PlanesWalker characters... and it does literally scream "Magic"... and it's a damn-site better than anything I could do, so I hope you don't mind if I plan on including this with my Manalink 3.0 MediaFire download.

WishList (as if you asked ^_^):
-- A more generic alternative to all the PlanesWalker art. Less brand-new DotP and more old-skool MtG.
-- 4:3 aspect versions of graphics that require it.
-- Animations that are... well... animated.

Thanx for taking the time and expending the effort to help make the newest version of our favorite game just that much cooler. Appreciate!

Re: HighRes Widescreen & Standard 4:3 Graphic Update

Postby Sarlack » 09 Jun 2012, 05:38

Thanks everyone!
I added a new widescreen with a few minor changes and included the ManaLink gem with it.
There is also a new Standard 4:3 version for everyone with that kind of monitor.
I have not been able to test the 4:3 version yet because I have to wait till Monday at work.
Let me know if the backs are the correct aspect ratio or if it squishes the images out of perspective.
The Widescreen is based on 1920x1080
The Standard 4:3 is based on 1600x1200

CirothUngol, I will look into making a Classic version with old images and card backs soon.
The images are a little harder to find in high quality, but they do exist.
And I will make better animations when I install my 3D program.
I just added the basic animations to test how it works. :)

How do you change the way the cards look? I like all the new artwork but the new cards I find kinda hard to know what color they are at first glance. I am wondering if I could tweak the tops of them to look more blue/red/green/etc ?

Really looks great though, it's starting to feel like I'm playing a brand new game heh. All this artwork and all these new cards \o/

Thanks for the updated extras, and for the 4:3 version. It looks great! I've included your mod in the full-download version on MediaFire, hope you don't mind.

@ Althuna
If you'd like different CardFrames, grab the "OtherMods" archive in my MediaFire folder (look in .\Manalink 3.0\AddOns\). Incidently, I kept Sonic's "Modern" CardFrames for the Full MediaFire Download... grab that and check it out.
