Can ML3.0 + ML2.x and/or MtG 2010 coexist?
by RumbleBBU » 26 Aug 2012, 09:18
With the Limited play (more specifically, Sealed Deck tournaments) not exactly working in the current state of Mana Link 3, I was wondering...
Is it possible to install other, earlier versions to the same computer system (Windows XP) without unistalling 3.0 first? Or will that mess up something? (Apparently, ML3.0 accesses the Windows registry.)
And which earlier version has the most cards available for Limited play? The last Manalink 2.x or MtG2010?
Any help appreciated.

They can coexist if you give ML3.0 and ML2 different paths of course as they both come as Magic.Mtg2010 has different name "Mtg" and has no problem.
I have found that couple of things iterfere both versions but nothing serious.for instance if you play a duel with Arzakon - Elvish Druid in ML3.0 and then go to ML2.0 in duel you will find that these were the last selected decks for the duel.
Ml2.0 has to have more cards for limited play.

Sure they can. Since I do a lot of testing, I have Manalink v1.32, 2.0, 3.0, MagicSCV and 2010ISO installed at the same time. The game keeps some stuff in the registry (like Duel Settings, last Player, last Deck Played, etc) and these will cross-over, but nothing too sensitive. Keep them in seperate paths and don't run them at the same time.
Manalink 2.0 will definately have more cards.
The 2010 ISO has 1383 CodedCards... my last copy of MagicSCV has 1967.

Again, thanks for the replies!
I have now installed an the 2.x set (which includes 1.3.2 too) from Ciroth Ungol's download page. It seems to be the latest 2.0 I can find anymore? At least it's got a lot of cards. And yes, both the 2.x and 1.3.2 work seamlessly, as does the 3.0, on the same machine (aside from "remembering" another version's settings in certain situations).
Then I find all these posts about "Golden Years" sets and all those other interesting mods...but the links are dead.

"Golden years mod" are included in Manalink3.0 and latest Manalink2.0 (in latter you have to run the Golden years mod.batch)verions,so with Manalink3.0 you don't miss anything you have all coded before cards in a single Magic.exe.

Ahh, ok. I kind of figured as much.
But I was under the impression that the "Golden Years" mod and the other mods would make it possible to use those extra cards in Limited format (Sealed Deck) in a sensible way? Sealed Deck is my favorite way of playing Manalink.
In 3.0, Sealed Deck is currently a bit...erratic.

I love sealed deck, too unfortunately last years none developed that so it can only support 8-9 first sets rather well, and all other new cards are set in 8th edition so that can be a part of sealed deck.
