Ok, first of all, guys, I think we definitely did it: combat is back to being fast in 1.5.28.007, which is great! :) Congrats! I noticed an issue with targeting arrows in 1.5.28.007: targeting arrows for blockers do not appear until the "instants" phase of Declare Blockers (while they should appear immediately). Elcnesh tried to fix this for the desktop version earlier on but there's an issue with that as well, as reported in the Bug Reports (SVN) thread.

Arrows should be easy to fix (I already know the problem), will do so tonight or tomorrow. I still have some ideas to make it faster, so if anyone still encounters slowdowns, please let me know.

Awesome! :) I fixed the desktop version, but I haven't touched the mobile version, so it still has the issue I mentioned above.

I can take a look shortly. I noticed that issue too. I also noticed the arrows appear blue when they should be red.

I can also confirm the combat lag is gone on my phone as well. Thanks elcnesh!

Definitely on board with more performance optimizations if they can be had without too much trouble or additional memory usage. I'm actually planning a somewhat major overhaul of the rendering and event system which I'm hoping will further improve the responsiveness of the app, so it'd be good to get all these optimizations done at once if we can.

Yes, that would be nice. I also noticed the blue targeting arrows instead of red on mobile Forge...
And also, I'm all for further optimizations of mobile Forge. It's already back to playable but any further improvements in speed and responsiveness of the app are more than welcome!

Additional performance optimizations you say? EVEN MORE speed and responsiveness on an app that's already running at efficient speed you say? *claps fervently* I'd give you guys the rest of this tray of brownies if I could. Hats off for the entire Forge team.

Re: Forge Android App: 09-27-2014 Alpha 1.5.28.008

Postby drdev » 27 Sep 2014, 22:47

I just released 1.5.28.008, which includes the following fixes and enhancements:

  • The app will now render continuously as opposed to only rendering in response to an event. This should reduce lag, make card images appear quicker (since they load incrementally), and prevent issues where the app wouldn't seem to display up to date information until performing another action.
  • Fixed so long press will no longer trigger after you've released your finger as a result of lag
  • Fixed so quickly tapping a pile of cards can trigger consecutive double tap actions, such as removing cards from a deck
  • Fixed so targetting arrows will correctly appear red for combat and when targeting your opponent or his/her permanents
  • Fixed so blocking arrows appear immediately upon declaring the blocker
  • Fixed so "Always Yes" and "Always No" appear as options when tapping on stack items for optional triggered abilities
  • Added 5 new tiered achievements, described here

Please let me know if you encounter any other unexpected behavior or if you see issues related to the change to continuous rendering.

Thanks.

Thanks for the new update, its been running great. A couple things I noticed with Achievements:

- They aren't being saved. When I exit the app and go back in they are reset.
- I won the Mana Screw (Mythic) Achievement and absolutely wasn't :P played at least 8 lands during the course of that game.

Odd. I'll investigate.

Re: Forge Android App: 09-28-2014 Alpha 1.5.28.009

Postby drdev » 28 Sep 2014, 10:15

I just released 1.5.28.009, which should fix the issue with the Mana Screwed achievement (as well as reset it automatically the first time you start after updating to allow earning it fairly), as well as introduce a timestamp for achievements that can be viewed by clicking on the achievement in the trophy case.

I could not reproduce the issue with the achievements not being saved, so if you can still reproduce that on this new version, please let me know, along with maybe some more specifics if possible.

Thanks.

I just released 1.5.28.010, which includes a few minor fixes, plus 6 brand new achievements under a new Challenges category.

  • Fix Charm spell text (e.g. Choose one - ...)
  • Fix so P/T overlay for tokens not hidden when they're tapped behind another token
  • Fix so certain spells and abilities (such as that of Oona, Queen of the Fae) properly display targeting arrows when on the stack
  • Optimizations for card viewing permissions (courtesy of elcnesh)

Re: Forge Android App: 09-30-2014 Alpha 1.5.28.011

Postby drdev » 30 Sep 2014, 19:40

I just released 1.5.28.011, which introduces the ability for two people to play against each other on the same device!

HumanVHuman.png

As you can see, you and another person can sit on opposite sides of a tablet (or phone if you don't mind the smaller screen) and play head-to-head. No internet required. You each get your own prompt that faces your direction, and your avatar, hand, and field all face your direction as well, though for the second player the direction is right-to-left in order to support the stack and two-player-specific menus on the right side.

To get into this mode, just go to Constructed and toggle AI to Human for the second player. That's all it takes. (NOTE: you can still play "Hot Seat Mode" as before and control multiple human players from a single prompt by turning on the Hot Seat Mode preference under Settings)

Please note that there are some known issues with cards not being hidden correctly in certain instances, and the inability to use your player-specific menu when you don't have priority will eventually be fixed. There's also currently no way for each player to have different stops, so at least for now, you'll each have to stop on the same phases.

As this is a completely new style of play for the app and I don't personally have a second person I can playtest it with, I'm very interested in hearing feedback from anyone who uses this mode. This is also an important first step in preparing the game logic to handle network play, so any bugs that can be sorted out now using this mode will help with that effort.

Thanks.

Hey Dan,

Is viewing your own Morph creatures still on your TODO List (and how high is it up there if so)? It makes playing KTK limited on my phone a little frustrating. Since I don't know the cards at all, and all I can find out about the morphed down creature is how much it costs to demorph it.

Thank you for the reminder. I agree it's important now more than ever give the return of morph with KTK. I'll move it to the top of my TODO list. It will actually be a good time to do so anyway as I was already planning some other requested improvements to the Zoom/Details view.

Here's some quick thoughts from playing 2 player-same device real quick:

The Phases for the 2nd player going Right to Left is odd, and I don't think I like it. I get the idea of mirroring the player panel, but in practice I don't think it works. (At least for Phases, I think it's fine for the zones etc)

Tapped game objects for the 2nd player are displayed off screen, not showing their names. http://imgur.com/1eoUTjT

The 2nd player cast Despise, but when it resolved all of the dialogs were displayed upside down.

Not sure if this is App related, but I cast a Waylay during Declare Attackers Phase, but wasn't able to assign them as blockers. I don't think it double clicked on the OK button, but I guess it's possible. I just tried this on my laptop, and it worked alright. So maybe it just clicked through too quickly for me to notice declare blockers.
