Maximum Life Limit

Postby ProphetSword » 22 Oct 2014, 02:22

This may be something that the developers are already fully aware of (hard to say), but there's an upper limit on the amount of life you can gain in the game before you lose the game. I doubt anything can be done about it, but once you're up around a billion lives (1,000,000,000), it's game over. The numbers roll over and immediately chuck you into the negatives...really low negatives (I was -190000303) and Forge declares a victory for your opponent.

I doubt anything can be done about this. I imagine it's hard-coded into the way the variables work, but just thought I'd throw it out there to see. And also as a warning to those of you playing decks where you can gain a massive amount of life.

Actually, it would be pretty easy to fix. We'd just add logic to the life gain logic to ensure you don't increment the value beyond the known upper limit of the Integer type. That way, the number would stop going up, but at least you wouldn't lose by accident.

Might I ask what combo you're using to achieve this state? Mostly asking for the sake of testing if and when I attempt to fix this.

I had two Serra Avatars on the battlefield, both enchanted with Spirit Link or something similar. The AI was able to produce a lot of small creatures to put in their way, so every turn I attacked my life total tripled. Once you're up over 1,000 lives, it starts to go up very quickly.

(1000, 3000, 9000, 27000, 81000, 243000, 729000, 2187000, etc).

I also had other cards that were allowing me to gain life (not nearly as much as the Serra Avatars, of course).

Here's a picture of the battlefield just a few minutes before it happened where I am already at over 100 million life. I kind of suspected it might happen, so I was taking screenshots frequently:

Has this ever been fixed? I played a game today and got to around 1,650,000,000 life. As soon as I gained again (crossing the 3,000,000,000 mark), the numbers wrapped around and killed me. If it has been addressed, I just need to know what the upper limit is so that I don't cross it again. Here's a screenshot of the round just before it said I lost:
