Release Notes
-------------

- Shadows over Innistrad -
This release includes many fixes for the Shadows over Innistrad set. There are still a few that we're working on, must notable The Gitrog Monster triggering at all the right moments.

- Download without Sleep -
Made it so computers should no longer enter sleep mode while downloading stuff from within Forge.

------------
Known Issues
------------

- Shadows over Innistrad -
Forge now includes many new cards. It may take a few days/weeks before these new card pictures become available for downloading via the "Download LQ Card Pictures" button. The LQ set pictures tend to take a few more weeks/months to process before they become available for downloading via the "Download LQ Set Pictures" button. Please be patient. The Forge devs are not involved in maintaining the servers that house these pictures.

There is a known issue with Kodama of the Center Tree: its Soulshift X ability used to crash Forge, and until a proper fix can be implemented, a temporary fix was introduced which prevents the crash but makes the Soulshift X ability work incorrectly in certain cases (in particular, it doesn't work correctly with mass removal, and it may have issues when Kodama of the Center Tree is controlled by someone else other than its owner). In the basic cases (such as Kodama of the Center Tree being destroyed in combat or with a direct damage spell) should work correctly. Hopefully one of the developers will be able to implement a better and proper fix for this card soon.

There is a known issue with the cost reduction for cards that have color-locked X in their mana cost (e.g. Drain Life, Soul Burn). Cost reduction will not apply correctly to these cards if the amount by which the cost is reduced is greater than the amount of colorless mana in the mana cost specified on the card (e.g. 1 for Drain Life, 2 for Soul Burn). Fixing this issue likely requires rewriting the way announced color-locked X is interpreted and paid (most likely it has to be represented with colorless mana shards but still locked to the colors required by the card).

Several people have noticed that the cards displayed on the battlefield will fail to be displayed when the number of cards on the battlefield increases. Maximizing the human panel can help to re-display the cards.

Some time was spent turning the static ETB triggers into the proper ETB replacement effects they should be, mainly to interact correctly with each other. This work is not yet finished. As a result there is currently some inconsistencies with "Enters the battlefield with counters" (Not incredibly noticeable).

A recent contribution to the code base should fix some of the bugs that people noticed with cloning type abilities. At this time there is one remaining issue that we hope will be addressed in the near future:
Copies of cards that setup Zone Change triggers via addComesIntoPlayCommand and addLeavesPlayCommand will not function correctly.

----------------------------
Forge Archive Instructions
----------------------------

The Forge archive includes a readme.txt file and we ask that you spend a few minutes reading this file as it contains some information that may prove useful. We do tend to update this file at times and you should quickly read this file and look for new information for each and every new release. Thank you.

The archive format used for the Forge distribution is ".tar.bz2". There are utilities for Windows, Mac OS and the various *nix's that can be used to extract/decompress these ".tar.bz2" archives. We recommend that you extract/decompress the Forge archive into a new and unused folder.

Some people use the Windows application 7zip. This utility can be found at http://www.7-zip.org/download.html. Mac users can double click on the archive and the application Archive Utility will launch and extract the archive. Mac users do not need to download a separate utility.

Once the Forge archive has been decompressed you should then be able to launch Forge by using the included launcher. Launching Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file in the past caused a java heap space error. Forge's memory requirements have increased over time and the launchers increase the java heap space available to Forge. Currently you can launch Forge by double clicking on the forge jar file without a java heap space error but this is likely to change as we add in more sounds, icons, etc.

(Unfortunately, until our Release Manager who owns a Mac is back, the Mac application of Forge can not be distributed. Hopefully it'll be back sooner rather than later.)
- The Mac OS application version -
We can now package Forge as a Mac OS application. You can double click the Forge.app icon to launch the forge application on your Apple computer running Mac OS. This application will automatically increase the java heap space memory for you as it launches. This version does not require the forge.command file and it does not need to start the Terminal application as part of the start up process.

The Mac OS X app version apparently requires the Mavericks OS and is not compatible with earlier OS X versions. People with earlier OS X versions should use the Windows and Linux version and launch forge on their Mac by double clicking on the included "forge.command" file.

Sorry our Mac OS specific Application is currently unavailable for this release. However, Mac users should be able to use the above archive since Mac OS is based on Unix. There just won't be a specific application. Hopefully Chris H gets better soon, and can come back to providing this extra file.

Mac OS is based on Linux
Just FYI, this is not the case - Mac OS X is based on Darwin, which is a fusion of the Mach microkernel and FreeBSD. It is, however Unix-based, and thus has a Bourne shell capable of running forge.sh.

One other thing regarding packaging, though - it's generally considered good form for a tarball (foo.tar.bz2) to extract into a directory of the same name (foo/), so as to avoid producing a "tarbomb" that scatters files across the user's directory. While some GUI unarchivers create such a containing directory, the commandline tools commonly used on Linux do not; hence the convention.

For example, most users would expect running "tar -xvf forge-gui-desktop-1.5.52.tar.bz2" to produce a directory, "forge-gui-desktop-1.5.52/" (rather than the contents appearing at the top level).

I hate asking for tech support, but I have a slight problem.
After installing the latest update, my catalogue says I have 15591 cards, not 15664. So, somehow I have 73 cards missing.

About Forge says I have version 1.5.52-R-1, and my list of cards include the three newest ones.
I tried filtering by set, and it says I have 318 cards for Shadows over Innistrad, which also seems a bit off.

Please advise

Are you just talking about the normal deck editor? That editor filters out all of the "special" cards like Planes and Avatars and whatnot. Also, I believe the 318 comes from counting both faces of the DFCs. Even though you can't add 32 of those "Cards" to your deck, each face counts as it's own card.

I've got a bug report for this version, and I've copied the error report as instructed, but the forum won't let me post it, since it "looks spammy". Any way I can circumvent the filter and get you guys the info?

Re: Forge Beta: 05-03-2016 ver 1.5.52

Postby Ldcs8T4EAnj8h5ZMD8rf » 05 May 2016, 18:53

I updated from Ver. 1.5.51 on 4 May. I have played a few matches both yesterday and today, 5 May. In the middle of a game I discovered a change in behaviour. I use my keyboard's "Enter" key in lieu of clicking the "OK" button while in game. In turn 13 of a game I cast a Planeswalker. It went to the stack, and, as normal, I hit the "Enter" key. The application resolved the stack and immediately advanced to the Begin Combat phase. I had two Creatures on the field untapped and able to attack. When I pressed the "Enter" key again, the application advanced to the End Combat phase even though I had Declare Attackers toggled on and had potential attackers. I ended turn, let the AI play out its turn, and proceeded to my Upkeep phase. I took care to ensure I only pressed "Enter" once and advanced to Main Phase 1. I cast a Creature, putting it on the stack, and again making sure it was only pressed once, pressed "Enter". The application again resolved the stack and went straight to Begin Combat. This time I clicked the "OK" button and advanced to Declare Attackers. I attacked and clicked "OK" and the application advanced to Declare Blockers. No blocks were declared and I pressed "Enter". I do not have First Strike or Combat Damage toggled on and the application advanced to End Combat as it should. Pressing the "Enter" key advanced the game state not to Main Phase 2 but to the AI's Upkeep. I have Main Phase 2 and End Turn toggled on.

After seeing this problem, I tested my keyboard's "Enter" key in my word processor, this forum post, and the application's Import Deck feature without seeing any inconsistency. The key worked without noticeable problem in three matches of Booster Draft and three matches of Constructed yesterday or in the first Constructed match today or in the first two games of the match where I noticed this issue. Clicking the "OK" button advances the game as normal.

Found a bug: Karakas ability does not get countered by Kira, Great Glass-Spinner.
