Forge Icon and Splash screen needed
by mtgrares » 21 Jun 2010, 20:58
I did get Launch4j working, it seems to require a splash screen. I need a snazzy icon for Forge, ico file. Feel free to use any tool like http://www.favicon.cc/
I also need a splash screen that says "Forge" but you can add lightning bolts and other cool stuff. Try to keep it relatively small, around 100kb I would guess.

I thought that this could be turned into a good splash screen.

Rob your picture is very good, I like the electricity or whatever it is. I prefer KingMob's a little bit more, I'll probably make it a little smaller but I like the card idea without using the back of a real Magic card. I love the word "Forge" and how you see through it.
For icons, I'll probably just have the letter F or something simple.

I love KingMobs but I think it is a bad idea to poke the bear...

That's true - but let's look at the facts,
This forum has a thread for a torrent of the official Magic game. Apparently that's not much of a problem.
What Forge offers is something that could be transformed into a much more viable business model. Software that is continually updated, and for a small fee users could buy access to the server that updates cards, patches, etc. - and the people who program and add onto it are working for FREE! Subscription services are really popular in gaming right now, and I think Forge would be a great stimulus to the material game when people got good enough to want to buy their cards IRL and play at tournaments. The more attention Forge gets the better I say, as it'll force Wizards to realize that their static expensive releases won't draw as many people or as committed of players and programmers as a continually changing product that's paid for on a "by play" basis.

Forge will never be monetized but I don't mind giving it away for free. I wouldn't mind making money off of another TCG, either a defunct one or a TCG that I create.

I made an Icon A little while ago. Although I just converted into the .ico today.
P.S. I new here and just kind of stopping by.
Edit: The .ico is in the zip.

Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that it be monetized - I guess I just feel like there's no reason to keep forge from being as good as it can be, graphically. I do video compositing and graphic design for a living, so I suppose that's why I want to do whatever I can to help.mtgrares wrote:Forge will never be monetized but I don't mind giving it away for free. Wow, these all look great
I like KingMob's especially. It looks professional... well I guess that makes sense since you ARE in fact a graphics professional

Thanks for the vote of confidence....Beached As wrote:Am i the only one that reckons Rob's icon looks rad?
I like my "Forge" text part the most. (With the diamond plate texture)
I do like the almost-card-like design.
With the name "Forge" the visual identity must convey the fact that it's related to Magic, without outright saying Magic or MTG. Not for nothing, but even the layout of the color balls may be too much. Notice Evan Erwin's "The Magic Show" logo puts them in a straight line along the bottom.
I tried resizing my splash screen while I was working on it, but it just doesn't read well at icon sizes.
The Force will be with you, Always.

No offense taken, we keep things pretty light around here and throw around a few jokes. Forge is far from being a professional looking program like the new Duels of the Planeswalkers, but for now it is the best that we can do.KingMob wrote: Sorry, I didn't mean to suggest that it be monetized - I guess I just feel like there's no reason to keep forge from being as good as it can be, graphically.
