Objest Types - Need Ideas
by Goblin Hero » 27 Jun 2014, 17:53
Right now MA has 5 object types - Card, Token, Nontraditional, Inserts, Oversized. But what to do with the Collector Edition/World Championship Gold Bordered cards? I do not want to add another object type. Any ideas?

Two object types are solid and won't be changed.
1. "Card" is a card legal for tournament play. It can be added to the deck.
2. "Nontraditional" is a card what can be used for special casual formats (Planes, Heroes, etc.) It can be added to the deck as nontraditional.

I don't really know much about these cards but a friend of mine owned some world champion gold border deck. I think I would just treat them as "card" type but have their own set just like any special set (duel deck, from the vault, etc'). not only they behave like regular cards but some discussions on MTG Salvation forums say that people use them casually (like for Commander or as proxies for cards they own).

I would think nontraditional would make sense as these are standard sized cards that you can add to a deck, but aren't legal in sanctioned formats. I know people who have played them in casual games and just stuck them in sleeves to cover the backs.

It's not tournament legal, so not a "Card".
"Nontraditional"? No, it will break some logic.
BINGO! I just have a brilliant idea. I will merge it with the oversized and rename this category to "Card Replicas". This way we have a category for things what looks like tournament legal cards, but not tournament legal.
Any objections?

For tournament illegal cards you just mark then as illegal in every format.
and how in Card Replicas will you differentiate between oversized and goldbordered?

Card Replicas sounds good to me.

While you're working on Oversized cards, would you be so kind to make dinstinguishing possible between regular cards and oversized versions for price imports? When Importing Commander sets, some sites have both versions available, but as MA only identifies cards by Name and Version, there's no way to explicitely set regular or oversized only...
I think this could, for example, be achieved by setting the version field to "oversized"/"gold" within the "Replicas" category.

I can't do it because of the current database logic.Bloodnut wrote:For tournament illegal cards you just mark then as illegal in every format.
We have "Border Color" to mark gold cards, we have "Comment" to store special info about oversized cards.Bloodnut wrote:and how in Card Replicas will you differentiate between oversized and goldbordered?
