Library Grinder BU

Postby Resonantg » 19 Dec 2009, 18:10

No witty name this time, but the deck works pretty darn good. We love Library destruction here. I particularly like the card Mind Funeral. I've actually seen it do a 40 card discard out of a 60 card deck. That was fun. This is the first deck I've gone into the multi colored cards heavy.

1 Black Lotus
2 Gilded Lotus
4 Howling Mine
4 Millstone
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sol Ring

5 Island
5 Swamp
4 Underground Sea
4 Sunken Ruins

4 Lurking Informant
4 Nemesis of Reason
3 Dimir Cutpurse

1 Jace Beleren
1 Liliana Vess

4 Memory Erosion
1 Demonic Tutor
4 Glimpse the Unthinkable
2 Haunting Echoes
4 Lobotomy
4 Mind Funeral
4 Tome Scour
2 Traumatize

Mind Funeral is given unfair advantage against an AI whose land stacking has been ground off the top of the library. Main point: do not cast it too early :).
O forest, hold thy wand'ring son
Though fears assail the door.
O foliage, cloak thy ravaged one
In vestments cut for war.

True. I've been burned that way before. But that 40 card grind was a turn 1 play. Got lucky with a pair of moxes and land out. So you're right, but you never know.

Ah, so you test your decks without AI land stacking?
O forest, hold thy wand'ring son
Though fears assail the door.
O foliage, cloak thy ravaged one
In vestments cut for war.

I never understood what land stacking was.

Land stacking is an option that will make the library of the AI look like this:

non-land card
non-land card
non-land card
non-land card
non-land card
non-land card
non-land card
land card
land card
land card
land card
land card
non-land card
land card
non-land card
non-land card
land card
...
rest of non-land cards
...
rest of land cards

So without some way of shuffling the AIs library, the AI will only draw 7 land cards... Unless the game lasts till there's only ~13 or so cards left. But it's a big advantage for the AI, since it gets to draw a lot of spells and usually just enough land cards.

And actually yes, a turn one Mind Funeral would be the worst result aimed at an AI's land stacked deck (since the next 5 cards are lands).

However a turn one Tome Scour followed by turn 2 Mind Funeral is epic (That IS a ~40 mill).

EDIT:Even nastier: turn 1 Glimpse the Unthinkable, develop field while computer helpless, Mind Funeral, NOW you start milling.
O forest, hold thy wand'ring son
Though fears assail the door.
O foliage, cloak thy ravaged one
In vestments cut for war.

So this is a vote of "Woot!" for this deck huh?

And yes, I've done the turn 1 double Tome Scour and turn 2 Mind Funeral.

With stacking? If so, why double :P?
O forest, hold thy wand'ring son
Though fears assail the door.
O foliage, cloak thy ravaged one
In vestments cut for war.

Cause I could at the time. :)

Been testing it against decks I've made with mixed results after stacking was turned off. My "AntMob" deck I'm working on is turning out to be very vicious.

Nothing like a Scute Mob, Ant Queen, Carrion Ants set with ways to push out more land through Kodama's Reach and the Sakura Tribe Elder... Whooo boy... it can fly. Nothing like generating 3 insect tokens and then attacking with a 5/5 Ant Queen in turn 3 to wreck someone's day.
