GRW Swans Deck

Postby apthaven » 04 Jan 2010, 05:06

60 Total Cards

12 Creatures
-------------
4x Oversoul of Dusk
4x Phytohydra
4x Swans of Bryn Argoll

28 Spells
----------
1x Ajani Vengeant
4x Lightning Helix
1x Mox Emerald
1x Mox Pearl
1x Mox Ruby
4x Path to Exile
4x Pyroclasm
2x Pyrohemia
2x Sarkhan Vol
4x Swords to Plowshares
4x Volcanic Fallout

20 Land
--------
2x Jungle Shrine
4x Plateau
2x Sacred Foundry
4x Savannah
2x Stomping Ground
4x Taiga
2x Temple Garden

Swans of Bryn Argol is a very powerful card. There are so many good combos with it though one of them involves the Pyroclasm + Volcanic Fallout + Swans of Bryn Argoll to effectively control the field, while allowing you to draw cards.

Even if your opponents survives Pyroclasm/Volcanic Fallout, the card advantage this combo generates is nothing to be laughed at.

Phytohydra is a good fun card, though it is rather expensive for its cost. It works well with the Swans combo though.

Other examples of Swans decks could be used with mechanics Threshold or even Milling.

That Phytohydra is just begging for Pariah's Shield. Even worse:Stuffy Doll and Pariah's Shield.
Then either That Which Was Taken or Privileged Position and a Bullwhip and you really outlive your welcome at the gametable.
Oh, oh! Throw in Guilty Conscience if you really want ot get rid of your friends in a hurry!

Ok, sorry, got a little carried away with ideas there.
The deck looks interesting and I will definately try it today.

Hmm, what does an enemy Pariah's Shield do on a Stuffy Doll :)?
O forest, hold thy wand'ring son
Though fears assail the door.
O foliage, cloak thy ravaged one
In vestments cut for war.

Divide by zero!

That can't be done, but you get a similar effect by enchanting an enemy Stuffy Doll with a Pariah: infinite loop into a draw.

It can be done - for example with Magnetic Theft.

I meant it couldn't be done per se, but I didn't even know it could be done at all. Nice. :o

Also, technically you're supposed to be able to target yourself with Stuffy Doll, or take your opponent's equipped shield using any of the numerous blue "gain control" cards, e.g. Menmarch, or Donate your own...
What would Forge do in such a situation though?

Forge would probably start crying, curl up in a corner and hit you with it's trademark "computer is thinking..." move.

Wasn't that replaced with "If you see this for over a second, an error has occurred."? That would be an interesting solution though: "Computer is thinking it be high time to offer a draw.\n[OK][Cancel]" :P.

`
Rares had left a post about the "Computer is thinking" message. I plan to update the SVN and will replace that message with "An error has occurred. Please send the STACK REPORT to the Forge forum." :)

Be sure to add "Computer is thinking...\nIf you see this message for over a second,", I have seen the message for brief intervals of time when playing with an overloaded field(see Mycoloth) on a netbook. A note about where the Stack Report button is located(menu I think) could also be helpful.
What I was talking about was some way to catch infinite loops, and display the draw notification in that case. It would probably be better rephrased as "Computer is thinking you've set up an infinite loop or somesuch, and further action is futile. Accept draw?".
