Alara Shard Singleton Decks

Postby gos » 09 May 2011, 11:13

I took every card from Shards of Alara block, divided them equally between shards (which means the 5-colored cards got left out), then removed cards not implemented in forge yet, and added basic lands. There were a few exceptions to this rule: all decks got 4 of their respective panoramas, obelisks, tri-color lands, and borderposts.

So, if you like varied, bloated, thematic singleton decks, I thought I'd share :)

I saw that you post a lot of decks gos. If you want, you can tune decks that have a remarkable theme to be playable well by the AI and we can include them as a quest opponents. See the new quest deck topic for more details.

"Remarkable" might not be the best term to use while describing a quest AI type of deck. As far as themes go a better word might be detectable and/or noticeable. :D

Good examples of themes could include decks based on spell countering, or milling or discard, etc.

Tribal decks can also be a good theme: dwarves or elves or dragons or giants or fairies or demons, etc.

Thanks for the invitation. How do you go about tuning a deck for the AI?

Just give the AI the deck and see which cards work good together.

You can now glance at the column named "AI" in the deck editor. Cards with a "No" are not likely to be usable by the AI.

Cards with a "?" tend to be cards that work in combination with other cards.

You can create a small several card deck which has the card that you want to test and you can include just enough mana in the deck to power it up.

Assign the deck to the AI and play a game to see if the AI can make effective use of the card or not. Make sure that you select the developer mode check box to insure that the AI does not lose the game when it runs out of cards in it's library.
