Okay, will install a virtual machine some day, doesn't seem like a real bug for normal windows.misterL wrote:The error occurs every time (Maybe it's the fault of my virtual machine - I play OPT here, not in the normal OS)...
I use Windows XP Pro 32-bit on the virtual machine, and normally I use Windows 7 Pro 32-bit...

Hey there!
Been away from Magic for a while, found OPT, and OMFG it blows MWS out the water.
If only places like Magic League made people use it, it's usage would go though the roof!
I do have one tiny suggestion though. In MWS, when playing, you can choose to Alt+Click to simulate the effect of a Double Click (i.e. Play the card). This makes things a lot faster while preventing the silliness that a single click alone playing the card would cause.
No chance of an include, or if I missed it, a smack on the head and a direction on where to set this?
All in all, excellent work, and you are the winrar!

We must have missed it when we went over the MWS shortcuts, I'll put it in the next version.Gwar wrote:Hey there!

Wow, that was fast!
Consider myself a rabid fanboi and I'll be sure to report anything I find.
Quick Edit: The zone names are the "old" names still. Ultra super mega low priority I know, just thought I'd mention it to get it out my head.
Oh, and Control + M when 0 cards in hand should draw 7, ala MWS if you are going that route.
And one FINAL question (sorry! D:), is it possible to import the MTG masterbase into OPT? I keep getting 404's when trying to update the Cardlist.

The old names will change in the new version, it's an item on the todo list.
Will fix the Ctrl+M issue.
The 404 is not good, I will check why that is.

Checked the cards updater in OPT, but it works fine for me, even from the internet cafe down the street.
Do you get the 404 with the OPT program or with something else?

I click Extra > Update Cards, and this happens:
Add a "Sacrifice" option. Yes, it's the same as put to graveyard, but it clarifies the game log. The move to graveyard option from the hand should be "Discard" also.
The Face Down/Up, Morph, Phase out and Flip options are not used that often, so it would be better (IMO) to put these 4 into another sub menu to reduce the size of the r-click menu.

Hm, the 404 must be because my webserver isn't the best in the world. As long as the end result is that you get all the cards, that means, running it again will give the message "No updates available" then I guess it's no big deal.
So, you like to have both the "move to graveyard" and "sacrifice" in the popup menu for cards on the battlefield?
For the hand, I can rename it to discard, without adding a seperate menu item.
I agree with the submenu, the main menu for permanents is too large now.

Fair enough. A secondary location for the files would be nice though, somewhere like mediafire perhaps? It's just that I am not getting all the cards! D:
As for the options, yeah, both would be best because not all things that move to the graveyard are sacrifices

If it's a permanent, it going to the graveyard is pretty much always due to one of three things:
1. Sacrifice
2. Destruction
3. Exiling
So if the options were "Sacrifice", "Destroy", and "Exile", it would be perfect.

Exile to the graveyard? Is that new?
SBE's also can put it there.
I will add Sac & Destroy, any more will cause confusion I am sure and they are also too MtG specific, need to steer away from that for future purposes.

No, my mistake. I was thinking "reasons for it leaving the battlefield" when I wrote that.Jorbes wrote:Exile to the graveyard? Is that new?
Wouldn't it be a better idea to set it up so that when 'preparing' the client to play a different game, terms would get swapped out as appropriate?SBE's also can put it there.

Swapping out terms is one thing, but actually making OPT do something for those actions is another story.
There needs to be code written behind each button, telling OPT what to do. In this case, I will make a custom "to graveyard" action with a prefix "term" indicating what is causing this move to the grave. So then each "to graveyard" button will do the same thing, except the text in the messages box will be using the prefix term in it's action output. The end result for the table state is the same for each way, just the output to the messages is different.
When translating this to other games, one would want to configure all 3 "to graveyard" methods to define their prefixes. Or I can add a config that tells OPT to only use 1 or 2 methods, haven't decided yet, but that makes sense.
It's just complicated that there are so many different ways for a card to go to the graveyard and if you want to be dynamic with this stuff, you cannot be too game specific.

pardon me if it has been address, but what is the motivation for renaming/allowing someone to "discard" from hand instead of "put to graveyard from hand"?
you aren't allowed to discard without an effect causing you to (aside from having over 7 at the beginning of the end step). context should allow someone to be able to tell what was going on with the card. whether during play or from viewing the game log.
i only bring it up because it just seems like it would add more clutter to the menus/context menus with little pay-off. unless you're planning on automating many card effects in the future, i don't see the functionality of the change.
maybe i missed something?
edit: perhaps it may be more useful to have OPT insert how many cards are in-hand before/after putting a card from hand to GY into the log?

in all cases, the special version of "to graveyard" will be in the submenu.
so for the battlefield, "to graveyard" will have a submenu with "sacrific" and "destroy" and the hand popup will have "discard". the action will be the same, just with different wording.
I was going to rename it yes, but that's causing problems in some dynamic code and this whole thing isn't really a big deal anyway.
