Why are card Ids displayed?

Postby spr » 29 Aug 2013, 09:49

The Game Log displays card names and the associated card Id. Does the Id need to be displayed to your average gamer? Is it not just for internal use?

In my opinion, it's quite necessary. It allows you to identify each card individually and differentiate between cards, and especially tokens, with same name whenever necessary.

But couldn't this also be done in a more graphical way. For example, if a log entry contains a reference to a card then clicking on the entry could flash/highlight the associated card(s), assuming they are still in play.

This is still a pretty fail-safe way. Or imagine this situation: Opponent has a face-down creature. You use Act of Treason on it and gain control (which lets you see what it is). The ID is the only way to identify it after opponent regains control (for example if you want to kill another face-down creature since this one presents no threat).
