How to set up a multiplayer game

So me and my dad got the MTG 2010 thingy and wanted to do a multiplayer game, thing is when I try to click on the connection types from NoNet it says something along the lines of can't create a directplay session on that service provider, could someone help?

And now the button dissapeared... great

The hoster does the following: right click on the gem, Preference, deactivate Auto connect (in case I change hoster).

The hoster does the following: right click on the gem, Preference, deactivate Autoconnect (in case I change hoster). Next gem, Open, select Connection Type: Internet (TCP/IP), Connect, Host
Pop-up window with a list of players. The client does the following: right click on the gem, Open, select Connection Type: Internet (TCP/IP), Connect, Join, Hoster Ip, join. At least when we developed minecraft prison servers, we did just that. And so far everything is working well.
