List of "may-go" slots in the Costructed version
by Gargaroz » 04 Jan 2010, 20:14
Ok, so here's a list I putted together.
IMHO, these cards could be overwrited with new / better stuff in the costructed version, unless they're needed for coding reason (Jatill, let us know).
1) Base set has to be preserved whole, almost for now.
1) Color hosers have to go, unless they're creature, as currently we cannot sideboard and they're less played than in the past.
2) Cards that have a superior replacemente or are redundant have to go (es : Spineless Thug, Invasion taplands).
I want your opinion !

2 cents:
These are both important sac outlets for some decks. If there are better outlets forthcoming, then awesome if not, then these should be on the end of the loss list, as they are still useful.

The rest of the list looks good, though i will be sad to see Mindbomb go. Blue discard/burn holds a special place in my heart.

Well, I have personally used some of these cards in my deck lists (for challenge modes especially). So I think you'll see a lot of complaints about removing any number of those cards. Hopefully I'll have the custom set editor built sooner rather than later, but until they be prepared for complaining. When you put out a new release, at least warn people what's been removed, so they have the choice to update or not.
In terms of causing problems, I only scanned the list quickly. Osai Vultures shouldn't be removed, though, since it uses non-standard counters.

I've used a couple of the cards in that list (no one ever played Mind Bomb in reanimator decks? :p I liked doing that, discard fattie then reanimate him turn 2) but at least 90% of those I wouldn't miss, and I'm sure most of the ones I would miss would be amongst the last to go on your list.

Mishra's War Machine and Cosmic Horror balance Momir basic. Mana Clash is a Shandalar favorite often mentioned in threads about the game. I've also prefer if the following cards stayed for one reason or another:
Mind Bomb, Abu Jafar, Dandan, Giant Tortoise, Ashnod's Altar, Ashnod's Transmogrant, Citanul Druid, Phyrexian Gremlins, Yotian Soldier, Gaseous Form, Headless Horseman, Life Chisel, Mountain Yeti, Spinal Villain, Spirit Shackle, Wall of Wonder, Merfolk Assassin, Tivadar's Crusade, Boil, Choke, Cinder Wall (as any other wall that could work in a rolling stones deck), Foratog, Psychic Venom and Hunted Wumpus.
Try to replace them last, if there's need of doing it.

I think that there a way too many cards in this list for removal, too many in fact to list them. Sealed deck play would be greatly affected by this, not to mention many constructed decks that the community has created over the years. If this be a version that folks want, well they can install it.
As for Shandalar, I'm not sure how the interaction of cards changed would effect it, meaning if any cards that are in it are removed from the main game, would they too disappear in Shandalar? If so, then this is a no go for me! Shandalar is too important for me to have it altered in this way.
For me, the Custom Set Editor that Jatill is working on, plus the modules that I have championed, seem to be the way to go.
I don't mean to bridal your enthusiasm or your goal Gargaroz, but IMHO, I think that what is needed if we go this way too is for targeted surgical removal and not an all out lobotomy!

I create this topic exactly with the purpose of "cutting down" that list, that is a big exaggerate even for me, however I needed a starting point.
I'll update the first post with the cards you guys want to stay !
@ 24sxforever : Ashnod Altar slipped in, I too want to keep it, but I'm sure you would appreciate more Phyrexian Altar or Altar od Dementia than Life Chisel.

Ok, i think I'll wait until Jatill works out his tool. Until then I won't update. There are far too many cards in that list that I use. to name just a few
Martyr's cry
Marsh goblins
Abu'ja far
Island of wak wak
Ashnod's Altar
Abomination
cat warriors
Bartel runnaxe
Craw giant (!!!)
elven riders
Mountain yeti
Infernal medusa
Radjan Spirit
Righteous Avengers
Spinal Villain
Storm world
Wolverine Pack
Scarwood Goblins
Aven Cloudchaser
Urborg Volcano
960 Elfhame Palace
961 Shivan Oasis
962 Coastal Tower
963 Salt Marsh
Catalog
Dusk Imp
Phyrexian Hulk
etc....
+ there a lot more used by the old AI's decks
I like old cards much more than I care to have even more Zendikar. I think a lot of the guys out there like a bit of nostalgia as well.
adding cards is OK but it shouldn't be an end in itself.
we have a great card pool, we can wait a bit until the tools to further add other cards are ready and it's needless to rush : anyway we can't add all the cards.
and removing some is bound to displease : we all use some of the cards that are to be removed.
We have to take a pause.
Well anyway, I'm Taking a pause.

I wouldnt mind seeing some of those go (Grixis/Rakdos/Dimir colours are a bit lacking when paired with the rest, IMO).
But many are staples, many more can be found in the challenge decks and the AI's decks, so those should stay.
