Release of XMage 1.4.4a1 (we need players to test)

There is a new xmage version released with updated network code. The rest of this version is the same as 1.4.3v2, only the Tron lands mana calculation is fixed.

We hope this network code will better handle the connected players and produce less disconnects.
Also it will allow the user always (we hope so) to reconnect if the connection was lost.
Not yet if the user IP has changed (provider disconnect) but also this can be added in future updates.

Before we use this network code with the regular xmage version we would appreciate if some players test the new version and report if all works well or any problems happen. I suppose there won't be many players on the server and it will be hard to find users to play with on the server. So it's for sure helpful if you can arrange a match with a friend/other player on the server.
Please report your experiences to this thread.

The following public server is available with the 1.4.4a1 version:

Or best use the xmage launcher with this Xmage Home setting to update/install the new version on your system:

(Best you use a new directory and install xmage a second time, to always be abale to use also the regualar version if you like without reinstalling. You can change the image path to you image directory in the xmage settings to need the image only once on your harddisk.)

If I start the client and open the deck editor before connecting, a null pointer exception occurs. The pop-up says Mage Client UI Error. After connecting or after disconnecting, no problem occurs.

I loaded the new version to run it for test purposes as well--

it opened ok but when I went to preferences to redirect the images to my existing files I got:


MAGE Client UI error
java.lang.NullPointerException

everything else seems ok so far v AI

connected to the test server just fine :)

no one is in there to play lol...

Hello,

I am having trouble connecting with the new version. Every time I try to connect, I get the following error message:

ERROR 2015-08-25 00:00:58,350 Communications error =>[nioEventLoopGroup-0-1] ClientExceptionHandler.exceptionCaught


(and a lot more. I can't post the rest because it says it is spam)


How can I fix it?

Thanks for taking the time to test the new version. It would be helpful to see the rest of the error message. In any case this message looks like you are trying to connect to one of the current XMage servers and not the test server. Can you post the server that you are trying to connect to?

same thing it keeps saying The Connection to sever was lost and then unable to connect

Thanks for taking the time to test the XMage network changes. It also appears that you are attempting to use the new client to connect to the old servers. If you take a look at the opening post you will see that the test server is using this address: 176.31.186.181:17171

Attempting to connect to any other server will result in the error you encountered.

my test partner's PC died before we could test but he has a new PC and is back up and running--we will test soon and report here...

I updated the server version to 1.4.4a2.

Use launcher XMage Home settings: http://xmage.de/xmage1.4.4
to get the new client version.
(also you get notice about a possible next update automatically).

I updated the server version to 1.4.4a3.

I had to update the launcher to be possible to start the local server with the network overhaul xmage version.
(Main class has another name).

Known Issues:
- Reconnecting the client to a server without restarting the client cuases errors if you try to create a match or tournament. So restart the clinet completely if you disconnect from a server.
- The client db file won't be updated from the server (but the client db file is up-to-date after the client download).
