Manalink Update - July 8th: SPAT

Postby jatill » 08 Jul 2009, 15:51

Clearly I'm addicted to adding things to this game... but with this update, I've added a feature that captures the essense of my favorite way to play Magic: SPAT.

http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/SPAT
The details:
SPAT (aka Type 4 aka Limited Infinity) is a normal game of Magic with a couple special exceptions.

* Each player has unlimited mana available.
* Each player can only play 1 spell per turn.
* Before the game begins, the SPAT deck is distributed between the 2 players.
* It is recommended that you use a singleton deck.

To play SPAT:

* Construct your deck as normal, except also add a single SPAT card to your deck lists.
* Remember not to include things like basic land, since they are useless in SPAT.
* A sample SPAT deck list is provided with the most recent patch (SPAT.dck)
* Start a Solo Duel, choosing the SPAT deck as your deck. It does not matter which deck you give your opponent.
* Play your duel!

Special Notes:

* Anger has an exception built in so that it works without a Mountain in play, when playing SPAT.
-----
I've also made quite a few other changes. Enjoy!

Cards Added:
Fact or Fiction
Gifts Ungiven (hurray, restricted list complete)
Dryad Arbor
Serra Avatar
Lord of Extinction
Isocron Scepter
Thoughtseize
Land Grant
Maelstrom Pulse
Echoing Truth
Volcanic Fallout
Cloudthresher
Zealous Persecution
Gorilla Shaman

Bug Fixes:
Wall of Kelp
Ohran Viper

Note to Mathusalem-
Some art is needed for this part. For the SPAT art (1569), I'd like to use the image of the 5 colors of mana swirling together with a white background. I can't remember exactly where I've seen that art. Do you happen to know which one I mean?

Damn, best update so far, thanks :D

Just a question how do the Fact or Fiction and Gifts Ungiven piles work, is it random?

No, I actually tried to do some decent AI. With Gifts you'll get the 2 worst cards, and with fact the piles are best + worse or the other 3. (Based on the spreadsheet AI values).

Edit: Make a minor update.

Added:
Suq'Ata Assassin
Swamp Mosquito

Fixed (I hope):
Sword of Fire and Ice
Tidehollow Sculler

Great update, as usual! You forgot Mind's Desire from the restricted list though (although I imagine it would be a pain to code...). Unfortunately I still get the SoFI bug, but Sculler seems to work now. And as far as the swirly mana picture, all I could think of was the card Conflux. Hope that helps!

That's basically the picture I want, except with the swirls being the whole picture, and a white background. Maybe it was on the original box for this game, or something.

What SoFi bug do you get now? All the ones I knew how to test for are gone.

Mind's Desire... dammit. #-o

We do already have storm and Yawgmoth's Will, so wouldn't it just be basically a fusion of the two?

Still, thanks. I've been sorta in lurker mode and haven't posted much, but I've been watching and updating and noticing that Overrun doesn't really go to the graveyard like it should?

I'm still getting the bug where once SoFI triggers, it will trigger again on damage from other sources.
By the way, SPAT isn't working perfectly (can sometimes play multiple spells a turn, sometimes it asks for ridiculous amounts of black mana to cast artifacts, but you can cast them by cancelling and recasting a few times), but it's wicked fun! Congrats on another awesome format :D

Ok, got the missing images but haven't found anything satisfactory fo SPAT for the moment. I'll keep on searching tomorrow, today, I'm beat.

Um...both attempts at casting Gifts Ungiven have resulted in an error that closed the game. Fact or Fiction has worked fine, but yeah, Gifts does not. Both were recently included in my Type 1 Tendrils deck.
