Manalink Update Feb 16 2010: EDH

Postby jatill » 16 Feb 2010, 13:42

New link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/ngzvenawuhz/20100216.zip

This is a minor update, but it includes everything from last week's update as well: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2244

Included in this update are 2 new challenges, 1 of which unlocks the EDH (Elder Dragon Highlander) format. For details, see the wiki.
http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/EDH_% ... hlander%29
http://www.slightlymagic.net/wiki/Challenge_Mode

I created some EDH decks for those looking to get a quick start. They can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=57&t=2268

This release also fixes several bugs:
-Fix CC of Vexing Sphinx
-Apply a slew of fixes to Horizon Canopy and Grove of the Burnwillows
-Make Infernal genesis Minions 1/1 instead of 0/1
-Yosei: do not trigger when RFG, work properly when targetting self, and add legacy text
-Gemstone Mine: do not remove counters when cancelled
-Make several dual lands auto-tap for the right color when casting spells
-Add Trample text to Phyrexian Negator
-fix interaction between Wiltleaf Liege and Doppleganger
-fix interaction of Gilder Bairn with power/toughness counters
-make Vine Dryad castable
-exile cards with Scalpelexis instead of milling them
-fix the Sutured Ghoul and Hermit bugs, whatever they were :)
-flip up Illusionary Mask creatures whenever they are tapped
-put Narcomoeba into play via mill
-AI can no longer cheat with Tinker

I got really excited about this when you updated the Wiki yesterday. Got me wondering if that "EDH" reward was really the Elder Dragon Highlander format.. this is awesome! Momir, EDH, Drafting, Constructed... this game will never get old.

edit: I tried playing Ancient Spider on the Programmer's Delight challenge and it was pointed as illegal, even though it's only abilities are Reach and First Strike. This also happened to Stalker Hag and Tower Gargoyle, but I guess those two make more sense since they're hybrid/artifact creatures.

Re: delight
hybrid and artifact creatures do actually have code, so they are not delightful. Apparently whomever added Ancient Spider actually did write some code. Not sure why. (as you can see, the challenge literally does check to see if code was written for the card)

I've never played the EDH format, but it looks like a lot of fun! Thanks a lot :)

I guess I have to beat the next two challenges, now... :D

The card Forest is banned in Programmers Delight :p I made a monogreen deck and it was disallowed. I removed every single card until nothing but forest remained, and it still gave me an autoloss.

I don't think so. The deck I used contains Forest and I have no problem. Perhaps you need to close/re-open? And there are really enough dudes in mono green?

Hmm... well at least that confirms the problem is on my end. And yeah, there were plenty of creatures in monogreen. For one drops, I think I had Scryb Sprites, Timber Wolves, and Shanodin Dryads, for two, Elvish Archers, Elvish Warrior, for three Trained Armodon, for four War Mammoth, for five Spined Wurm. I know I had a couple others, but the deck got saved over as I cut cards trying to figure out what the problem was. I didn't think it was even possible to do it in any other colour than green :p

Do I have to update all the fixed cards via seteditor to update them on my costom version or is it updated when i copy paste all the rest of the stuff ? (except the CSVs of course)

Code-related fixes happen automatically. Fixes like casting cost and text changes do not. You need set editor for that. For good measure, once the bug fix releases settle down after a major release, it's probably a good idea to run the database refresh.

Oh well, turns out Leonin Skyhunter was probably much better than the spider would've been for me. Nice challenge by the way, beating with Fusion Elemental makes people happy.

Jatill, don't you think that making AI starts with Hunted Dragon in play (Enter the Dragon challenge) it's a bit, how can I say, unfair ?
I mean : he is 6/5, has flying AND HASTE ! It's a 4-turn clock if you don't manage to remove it, and with all the cards restricted and a deck of 100 cards, it all about luck... IMHO, too much randomness = no fun at all.

My deck had 10 answers to the Dragon, plus tons of tutors. I beat the challenge on my first try, so I don't think there's as much luck as deck construction strategy.

I must've got really lucky on that one, because neither of us played any spells. I just raced him with the creatures that started in play (3 2/2 knights and a 1/1 pit scorpion); killed him on turn 3.
