[confirmed]Volrath's Laboratory's tokens have wrong name
by Aswan jaguar » 22 May 2016, 13:00
Describe the Bug:
The tokens put with Volrath's Laboratory are named as Riptide Replicator Token.
Which card did behave improperly ?
Volrath's Laboratory
Which update are you using?(date, name)Which type(Duel,Gauntlet,Sealed Deck)
Manalink 2016/01/15: Battle For Zendikar v2,duel
What exactly should be the correct behavior/interaction ?
Rulings
4/10/2004 The token has the same name as the creature type.
Are any other cards possibly affected by this bug ?
Riptide Replicator produces also a Riptide Replicator Token. It doesn't have the same ruling but same abilities have to be treated the same.

Also, it's activation cost is 2 instead of 5.
Working on: housekeeping and archived reports

Not just a display issue, either. If you pick, say, Angel, then Echoing Decay and all its friends need to hit both the Volrath's Laboratory/Riptide Replicator tokens and ones made by Sigil of the Empty Throne or whatever. (And if you think that's a pain, just imagine how much fun it'll be to make all the token-generating cards work right with Artificial Evolution.)

Bad activation cost fixed in d59e80c
The second bug is abysmal, as Korath mentioned, I'll see what I could do...

Modified the code of both Riptide Replicator / Volrath's Laboratory: if you choose a creature type that matches an actual token, you'll get it (and further work is needed to standardize the entry of that tokens, as you could generate a 4/4 green Angel with flying with the Laboratory, which is obviously incorrect), in the other case you'll get the old token and I've modified the functions which check the "name" of the permanents to comply with that.

Worse, in some cases you'll get tokens with rules text, like if you pick Assembly-Worker, Blinkmoth, Cleric, Splinter, or Tetravite. There's probably others.
I don't suppose this'll work with the pathological cases of choosing types that share a name with an actual card, so you can then do horrible Johnny tricks like casting Pack Hunt on them? As of Eldritch Moon, this affects creature types Atog, Aurochs, Brushwagg, Camel, Cockatrice, Homarid, Juggernaut, Leviathan, Lhurgoyf, Masticore, Nightmare, Orgg, Phelddagrif, Scarecrow, Shapeshifter, and Splinter. (Splinter isn't even a permanent, so it needs extra care. Most effects that might have tried to put it directly onto the battlefield explicitly target only nontoken creatures, but there are exceptions. This affects at least Mimeofacture, Dichotomancy, Clarion Ultimatum, and Doubling Chant.)
As an aside, is there any way to pick a creature type that exists only as tokens, not on an actual printed creature, if there's no such token currently on the bf? Camarid, for example.
