Having a hard time to understand which is the latest version
by Atma » 28 Mar 2020, 00:57
Hello from Argentina,
Yesterday I remember about and old magic game that I once played, after googling I found the name Shandalar and this forum.
I've read a bit of the forum, so i understood that the most updated version is no longer available as Korath doesn't want to has his great work to be distributed.
It's really a pity, but for the people arriving here it's a bit of a mess to understand which is the latest version that could be shared without infringement to Korath's will.
I will suggest to have an sticky post always pointing to the latest one with a clear description of how to install, and something that states that is still the latest.
I mean I'm still lost of which one should I install as many posts are old.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
English is not my native language, so I apologize for any error I could commit.
Thanks for reading!

There are only two installations available both of them without any new cards for the shandalar = adventure part - rpg.
Both of them are sticky to be on top of other topics:
1- Microprose MTG 2010 ISO changed only with new card art made to work on newer systems (windows 10 have some issues for some):
Topic is 3nd from the top more info on 1st post:
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=2349
2- Shandalar 2012 revisited which is the top topic on this forum which has more UI changes on main menu, on deck editor, and other stuff read the first topic :
viewtopic.php?f=76&t=7342
The link to guide you to install as mentioned is on the bottom of the post in his signature.
So, 1st topic and 3nd topic of this forum, are top enough.
Now, if you are interested also on non adventure part (duels, gauntlet, etc)
we call it manalink3.0 which is a forum above this and in the subforum patches you can download the latest patch, which is always among the top two posts in topics.
viewforum.php?f=85
Edit: the shandalar - rpg part - patches with new cards have been removed by their developer - Korath and are not shared any more as requested by him.

Thanks again for the summary Aswan jaguar. I'm going to sticky this because it comes up so much.
I hope the sticky doesn't get lost amongst all the other stickies.
Also on this subject, see viewtopic.php?p=243536#p243536.

Hi guys,
thanks for the info. I am sorry but I still do not understand how i could play shandalar with other expansions. At least the classics.I am playing shandalar 2010 but, for example, I cannot play gold cards.
Thanks for any help.

Aswan's post is extremely useful to someone like me who is in and out of the scene as 'the urge' periodically takes hold, only to come back to find that the latest Windows update has broken their install or something.
Is it a huge amount of work to update Aswan's link to Manalink3 as updates come out? - I ended up trying to download the March update thinking that was the latest one on the strength of this post, until Aswan himself directed me to where the October patch resides!
Either way, thanks to everyone in the community for keeping this alive!

There was a version of Shandalar with lots of new cards added (up to 2016 cards), sort of a "modern shandalar", but the author removed his work after some idiot pissed him off, so it's no longer available here. You might google for it, though, never know.

I used to have this version but lost it with a drive fail. Has anyone been able to dig it up?Emphyrio wrote:There was a version of Shandalar with lots of new cards added (up to 2016 cards), sort of a "modern shandalar", but the author removed his work after some idiot pissed him off, so it's no longer available here. I have it, I can upload it to someone so they can share it if they like. Just send me a link to send it to.Meloku wrote:I used to have this version but lost it with a drive fail. The author, creator, developer of this version with the new cards, Korath doesn't want this to be shared so please don't share it.Tanist wrote:I have it, I can upload it to someone so they can share it if they like. Just send me a link to send it to.

There's a video on Youtube, that has a Google Drive link to a pretty recent version. I can't post a link, but the user is "SeariousGame" and the video is titled "Magic the Gathering Shandalar Modern - How to get all the cards"
It adds quite a few mechanics like cycling, "choose one"-cards and transforming cards.
I was quite happy to see Umezawa's Jitte, Delver of Secrets and Force of Will in the gem shop.
It also has new decks for monsters, which I'm not so crazy about. They all seem to have gotten buffs, but also unfathomable crap.
