Manalink Tournament (May) (tournament complete)
by aww1979 » 07 May 2010, 19:47
Okay, this will be run similar to the previous tournament that Jatill held.
The rules:
1) All decks must be vintage/Type 1 legal.
2) All decks must be PMed to me (aww1979) by the end of Wednesday, May 12.
3) Deck name should be in the format "Vintage_YOURNAME_DECKNAME"
example: Vintage_aww1979_affinity
4) Only use cards that are in the main version of manalink (not limited or custom) You may use the cards coded by Jatill as rewards from the last tournament, if desired.
Scoring:
1) All participants run the decks through a 10-game gauntlet. The deck scores 1 point for each game it wins.
2) A deck scores 5 bonus points any time the AI wins with it.
3) Ties will be broken by running the top-scoring decks through a 20-round gauntlet. If it's still tied after that, both decks win.
4) Players who do not test decks (but still submit one) will receive a 5 point penalty. (this is equivalent to the +5 points for each scorer rule from before, but done in a way that requires less work, since I think most/all will test, as that is where the fun is)
Other:
-You may run best of 1,3 or 5 gauntlets, as you see fit, and as your schedule permits, as long as you pick one and stick to it for all decks.
-a minimum of 5 decks must be received or the tournament will be cancelled
-I have already built three decks to put into the tournament, as Jatill did. Depending on number of entries received, I might only ask people to test one of them. Also, if someone happens to submit a deck that is nearly identical to any of them, I might not put that one of mine in, just to avoid duplication.
Any questions/comments can be asked here or in PM. Decks should be submitted by PM unless you want everyone to see it beforehand and prepare for it!

Can I code new cards and include them in my deck? The deck I'm going to submit is just SO much better with 1 uncoded card
Oh, and thanks for running this!

Jatill - can you at least let us know about this "mystery card"? We'd have to have it for testing anyway and it would be nice to know about and/or use in my own deck

For the new players, the metagame of the first tournament was Zoo type.
All the decks are available here :

(Nyktorion_Zoo was the winner)
Good luck everybody !

Should unlockable cards be banned or how'd we go around not having a card unlocked when running the gauntlet?

Jatill made some sort of hack for it. I don't know the exact details. For the three decks I included, I purposely didn't include any locked cards for that reason.

Yeah I don't have every card unlocked so I guess we would need a hack for it. I missed out participating in the first one I will do this one for sure.

If aww gives me a list of cards to unlock once decks are submitted, I'll release a patch with those cards unlocked.

Two decks have been sent in so far. I'm guessing most of them will be submitted near the end, as people might want to test them.

Four decks have been submitted so far. They are all different from each other, the previous tournament decks, and the three I made for this upcoming one, so it should be interesting!

There are a lot of different kind of Zoo decks possible, different colours and styles and such. Just saying

Isn't zoo just a name for a deck with small creatures and lot of removal? I really doesn't matter what's the name of the deck. This time I predict the decks being even more aggro since that seems to be the only tactic the AI is capable of performing. Too bad this game got scrapped. Enthusiasts are doing a phenomenal job of adding new cards (can't wait for RoE, thanks in advance:D but I guess nothing can be done about making the AI smarter without making changes to the program itself which would mean time and money, how much I have no idea since I'm not a programmer. But I heard that Sony and WotC are making MtG into a computer game but somehow I doubt it will be as good as Shandalar
