You will not get authentic Foil cards on any monitor. So there is no point in having dark versions with much less visible details.

sorry guys, PresetM is doing all the promos, I am not touching the foils, he decides what he does with them. i use a calibrated monitor and use generic sRGB, nothing fancy.

the whole discussion regarding calibrating a monitor and use of different color profiles isn't a new one. I discussed this matter last year with extreme and we got no applicable result. Every Monitor is different. CRT is different to LCD, old is different to new. It looks different on morning, on evening with a second light source in room, it looks different in sunlight. In all cases the real cards and the scans looks different. So I see no way to calibrate all monitors that they looks equal. I use on my DELL LCD Monitor the standard color settings with a 1920x1200 resolution. In normal daylight all my scans looks very close to the real card. On evening without daylight this changes a little. Now the real cards looks more 'yellowish' and the scans on monitor looks brighter.

Wrong! The brightness of a scan has nothing to do with the monitor settings. Everyone can easily change the color settings of his/her monitor so that the scans (4th Edition, 7th Edition, Dark,...) looks like the cards on the table. And in this case the promo scans will look better too (closer to the cards). I don't have to change the scans for this!
Please compare both released Tendrils scans. All the details you see on Mahamoti D's picture are not(!) visible on the real card. They only becomes visible in Photoshop! But this isn't my goal. I don't want 'nice' pictures. I only want a scan that comes close to the card. And if this card looks crappy the scan looks crappy too (and a lot of the new promo cards looks crappy). Additionally we should consider that scanning of foil promo cards isn't an easy task (if you use mostly the scanner and not Photoshop).
And of course, everyone can use Photoshop or another tool to change the scans the way he like. I have no problem with that.
So the whole discussion seems a little bit useless I think.
I will do my best in future to get 'real' (and therefore sometimes crappy ) scans.

mahamoti has probably replaced the art with a downsized version of the original art, probably available on the wotc site. Same thing for the baloth. This is most definitely not a scan processed in Photoshop, and the card doesn't look like that. It sure is prettier though.
Another thing: regardless of the color profiles used, one thing is for sure: all cards presetM scanned and I processed have used exactly the same settings, which means you can apply the same color profile you prefer to them and get consistent results for all of them. Trouble is, there still are sets scanned by other people.

About those two Japanese promos you posted PresetM.
Cenn's Tactician is Arena (14 DCI in the copyright line) but shouldn't that Mad Auntie be a Japan Jr card? (3/3 N08 in the copyright line, and the Nxx card have always been Japan Jr. cards)
Checking http://www.magiclibrarities.net/163-129 ... tml#return you notice the 2/3 N08 below that leads me to believe Mad Aunti is the last N08 card.

But if so why the card just has Magic the Gathering in the text box and not Japan Junior Tournament? If Mad Auntie is really Arena why it hasn't xx DCI in the copyright line and what's the last Japan Jr card then?

Ah, I understand. His pictures are mixed ones. The picture is a non-foiled artwork and the other parts are foiled. Until now I was thinking, we have a 'scan project' here and only some Token were generated...

me too, jasonx73it. Wizards doing strange things. So far I know there isn't an English Mad Auntie promo card. And we have no English Gateway promo card with number '12 DCI'...
I don't know an answer. Ask Wizards.

Yes, I agree that this should be the 'scan project' but i was under impression that some brightness/contrast magic will make more details visible on dark foils. It this is not the case then current foils are by all means perfect.

I don't collect the real Magic cards, but collect all english HQ scans. I like the Magic art...
