[fixed/closed]Mother of Runes vs. Old Man of the Sea
by PGM » 22 Jan 2014, 21:09
Describe the Bug:
AI tries to steal my Mother of Runes with Old Man of the Sea.
I respond by giving it blue protection but it gets stolen anyway.
Which card did behave improperly ?
Mother of Runes or Old Man of the Sea
Which update are you using?(date, name)Which type(Duel,Gauntlet,Sealed Deck)
Commanding the revision of Ice Age V2
normal gauntlet
What exactly should be the correct behavior/interaction ?
A creature with blue protection cannot be targeted by blue spells or abilities
Are any other cards possibly affected by this bug ?
Color protection mechanics?

This looks very much like an engine bug; Old Man of the Sea validates its target on resolution as it should, but his activation card is seen as colorless.
One of the places it can be fixed - or, looking at it a different way, one of the places it might have gotten broken in - was translated into C just after PtT was released.
Anyone feel up to seeing if this happened in PtT, and therefore whether I should be figuring out what I got wrong or should be fixing it de novo?

If nobody else does this test till gmt 15.00 + 2 hours when I get home I will check this although I am pretty sure that it worked if you targeted the creature with Alchor's Tomb ability.

This has to be a bug from the original game unless versions bug on another.
I tried PTT and one in Manalink2.0 and in both Old Man of the Sea if it activated it's ability to steal a creature like White Knight which I then protected with Sleight of Mind to change protection to blue but the creature was still stolen.

It'll affect validation of all activated abilities against protection from color, then. (Protection from artifacts should be fine. Damage will still be prevented, which is why this won't show up with e.g. Prodigal Sorcerer, but the effect should fizzle instead of dealing damage that gets immediately reduced to 0.) I've got a quick-and-dirty fix that seems to work, but I think it can be done more robustly. Will give it some thought.

I have tested protection from artifacts and that doesn't work either Old Man of the Sea steals creatures when activated if then in response protect them with Razor Barrier or Apostle's Blessing.

Works for me with Ashnod's Transmogrant and Razor Barrier, though the transmogrant has to resolve before the Old Man is activated.

Forget about it, I didn't understand correctly what you said earlier so I thought that the activation Legacy was colourless so I played Razor Barrier & Apostle's Blessing to a creature being stolen by Old Man of the Sea and give it protection from artifacts.
EDIT.I just tested with Ashnod's Transmogrant and it works like a charm.
