Shandalar - Program Bugs
Specific direct damage spells are being mishandled (duplicate)
Namely direct damage spells which can target both players and creatures, particularly in colors where direct damage is an anomaly. Hornet Sting, Psychic Purge, Unyaro Bee Sting, Bee Sting and Hydroblast have a specific primary purpose in their colors and the decks they get put in and that is to kill utility and evasive creatures. The AI throws them at the opponents head as soon as possible if there isn't a target on board, which is terrible, and in case of Psychic Purge even worse than that. The gain is often negligible and the result is that the deck which should have been able to deal with an enemy pinger/mana elf/tapper/small flier can't because it threw the card away. Same goes for even red spells which do 1 damage - those aren't put in decks to throw at the enemy in the first turn. It's as if the AI mulligans to 6 and also wastes a turn doing nothing and also doesn't have something that it should've in it's hand when it needs it.
This needs fixing asap. The AI is likely to not misuse these spells if it draws them later, when there are threats on board, so a hacky (but probably effective) solution is to use the way Serra Avenger is coded on these cards (it can't be played in the first 3 turns of the game), except these should have their abilities split up to read "Do _ damage to target creature or if past turn", say, "4, do _ damage to target creature or player". The AI will spam them madly at creatures, but this is pretty much how they're meant to be used and if not it's a completely different problem.
