Shandalar - Program Bugs

Trample doesn't go over protection from color (reviewed)

It looks like a known issue, but I can't find a ticket about it (searched Trample , Protection and such).

I have a Spectral Force in play, AI blocks with Spectral Lynx. No damage. Makes perfect sense if combat damage asignment asigns all damage to the blocker first and then it all gets prevented.

This is actually correct for 4th-edition era trample rules. Related post.

I understand what's going on in combat well enough to change damage assignment to the modern conga-line rules, but not nearly well enough to get the AI to understand it - it would still happily try to block your Spectral Force with that Spectral Lynx, even if it had other creatures, and assume it wouldn't take any damage. The combat AI is already poor enough that I'm reluctant to give it any more disadvantages.

Ah, I did assume you knew about this becaue I knew it was per old rules, I felt silly reporting it. Thank you for the nice reply.

Not trying to badger anything out of you, but I've actually had many situations where the AI seemed to deperately attempted to soak up trample damage as per conga line rules, with me able to just trample over one guy. Very common occurence, as opposed to damage protection soaking it all up. It's possible that it was only trying to gang-block and kill my trampler, but it still felt ghastly and it crops up somewhat often, so I wonder if changing the rules would actually mess things up more than they are messed up now.

It boils down to this - if the AI can screw up by blocking a Lord of the Pit with a protection guy, that just means I shouldn't hand out protection guys to the AI. On the other hand, if the player uses the old trample rules everything's a semi-Thorn Elemental , and noone can influence how frequently that comes up, as opposed to the first case scenario.

So it might be worth actually implementing the current system.
