Very Awesome Stuff! Is it also possible to Hex edit the main game so that it reads folders (just like the old dotp?)

Edit: May I ask how you hex'd it to bypass the encryption? I'd love to try and mod 2012 too.

I didn't play the first dotp but from what I've seen so far dotp 2012 reads data from folders, however the priority is set to read from the .wad first, changing the priority would allow data to be read from folders first, but I haven't check this yet. Don't know if Kev or Gibbed have already checked that out.

Gibbed as already pointed out how to bypass the .wad checksum (http://www.slightlymagic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=4832&start=15#p62950).

Don't forget that the offset he's talking about is a memory offset, that is, the offset after the game has been loaded. If you want the real offset you have to subtract the memory offset to the address in which the game has been loaded. Typically the executables are loaded in 0x00400000, so the real address would be RA = 0x0064B3FF - 0x00400000 => 0x0024B3FF. Please note that I'm not sure that dotp is being loaded in address 0x00400000, so the real address might be wrong, but later on I can confirm you this. However you might give it a try, if you find the byte 0x75 at 0x0024B3FF then just change it to 0xEB.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: By the way, the patching method only works if you have an unpacked version of the executable, that is, you either unpacked steam_api or you downloaded the SKIDROW version. If you have bought the original game and haven't unpacked the executable this won't work. Unfortunately, the process of unpacking is rather complex and hard to follow if you haven't reversed engineered any game before, so if you bought the original game download the SKIDROW crack but remember to remove it when connecting to steam otherwise you will get banned! Also, if you modify the executable in any way and connect to steam you will get banned! The above information is for offline mode only!

EDIT2: Just confirmed, the real address is 00x24A7FF and not 0x0024B3FF. The reason is that I forgot to subtract the code base.

Cool stuff, I totally didn't see that thread. Thank you!

Edit: I don't know about anyone else but for me, DotP2012 does not have the chance to read data folders. ERROR_WAD_CORRUPTED shows when you unpack Data_Core, put the folder in there, and try to run the game.

I can't get it to work either. None of those adresses show up when I search for them in a hex editor, then again I know next to nothing about code :/
Does someone have a minute to put a modded .exe on some hosting site of sorts?

I try to modify the .exe but I lost it.
Someone who knows could put a little tutorial how to do it, or put an already modified executable.

Thanks.

Simply editing the exe doesn't help much. You only have the standard decks unlocked.
At the moment I can't find a working program for packing wad-files that have the correct size...

Does it care about the size if it thinks the wad is official?

I found the byte, but the game now crashes when starting up. Could this be because Gibbed Tools' packed my wad almost 3x as big (bigger than 1GB) even though I barely edited anything disk-size-wise? No idea if the original wad works, I lost it after a virus slipped through and made my PC go in a continious reboot (I only saved the files I really wanted to save). But I suppose THAT would work.

Oh, and yes: it was at 0x0024B3FF. Not even a bit in front or after it. And Skidrow.

And I've uploaded my .exe (packed, of course), but would it be OK if I posted here? Seeing as it's basically a no-CD crack I'd be posting here, and even though we talk about Skidrow, I don't know how accepted such links would be here.

I think it's because of the filesize...
I have the same error so atm there is no possibility to mod the game. I thought it would work, if I simply move the data_core.was outside the folder, but the game doesn't even start then...

So we need the help of Kev and/or Rick to get it to work.

Yes, the crash is due to the wad file size, I had the exact same problem in the begging. Do not use Gibbed packer (it doesn't apply any compression), instead use WadProgram. However, for some reason, after packing the wad the campaign won't work.

I use the WadProgram, but the file generated is 1 kb and doesn't stop running.
Is there another version that works?

It's not running until forever, it's crashing! The default heap size for the VM is 128M you must allocate 512M instead.
Open cmd.exe go the the location of WadProgram and type java -Xmx512M -jar WadProgram.jar
That should do it ;)

512 didn't do it for me, but I entered 1024 afterwards and THAT did the trick. Thanks for that =D
