[17/04/2012] DOTP 2012 Revenge Deck Unlocker

Hi there, it occurred to me after quite a long time of card modding that it would be quite simple to unlock the vanilla Revenge decks to be playable in custom games. It was quite fiddly to package the unlock as a standalone DLC file (with my level of skill) but this file unlocks the following revenge decks and makes them playable:

  • Auramancer
  • Unquenchable Fire
  • Apex Predators
  • Wielding Steel
  • Realm of Illusion
  • Relics of Antiquity
  • Relics of Antiquity Revenge
  • Strength of Stone
  • Grave Whispers
  • Guardians of the Wood
  • Ancient Depths
  • Dragon's Roar
  • Blood Hunger
  • Cloudburst
  • Machinations
  • Tools of the Mastermind

The other DLC decks don't seem to have revenge decks.

The usual rules regarding custom DLC apply, you will need the modified installation for the DLC to register, basically if you can run any other custom DLC this should work immediately. As these are AI decks they don't have unlockable cards or a sideboard. Don't use this with a Steam installation, especially to try and play online and that will likely not work and/or lead to massive punishment. This file is 20k of metadata, no game assets are packaged up in the file. The existing locked-but-not-revenge decks are unaffected, you will still need to unlock them the normal way.

I've tested these over a couple of games and they look fine so far. If I've made any silly mistakes please let me know and I'll fix them. While it was an obvious thing to do it was a bit more fiddly than I expected (making a DLC skeleton file was a learning experience, since these were AI only decks they needed some localisation text, needed appropriate Scheme decks defined and some even didn't have what colour mana they were on the GUI! Hopefully someone out there will get some more fun out of this great game.

22/04/2012 - v1.01 - Added Tools of the Firemind deck, fixed localisations to work when installed alongside other custom DLC files.

Plz use another name for your mod. I already use Data_DLC_1234.wad for my mod.

Thank you.

I have a suggestion for your mod: why not also add Nicol Bolas's deck (Tools of the Mastermind)? It's a fun deck to use as the archenemy, and it also works decently in single player (it's definitely one of the weaker decks that is beaten when the opponent can swarm a bit, but otherwise, you can nicely keep yourself alive by continiously wasting your opponent's monsters (using your spells on targets faster than you'd usually do to compensate for your lack of defense) and eventually ending the game through direct-damage cards (with or without Mnemonic Wall) or your 6+ mana cards. Talking through experience, as I have it unlocked).

Thanks for the heads up, I missed that one!

While I was updating the file I renamed the localisation file away from GLOSSARY.XML. That was the same file name as used by thefiremind's custom DLC mod, and I saw that only one file's localisations takes effect when the names clash in custom DLCs.

I don't call it GLOSSARY.XML anymore because I divided it in more XML files, but I think that kevlahnota's mod still uses that name.
