Cabal Ghoul + Diamond Valley

Sacrificing Khabal Ghoul with 5 +1/+1 counters to Diamond Valley resulted in me gaining 11 life, not 6. Is it possible that the counters are counting double for some reason?
The bug only "duplicates" the number of +1/+1 counters added by Khabal's ability. If I put some "regular" +1/+1 counters, the behabiour is correct.
