Collectible Card Game Headquarters

First to all I wanna thank to everybody who contributed/contribute making this game as the best of history for Magic. I started to play like a hobby 15 years ago on school, and when I saw this game this the mods and the custom cards I just returned to play, so thanks again for make this dream not only for the professional players, otherwise to the forever beginner like me.

I was reading this forum on march of the last year, and now I made my own decks, pretending to share, if its possible, and post here frequently. This way i detected some suggestions for make this section more firendly:

1. The CW Art and decks, are in diff topic very good explained, but maybe will be nice have one topic to report bugs, this way both original topics can be post only updates and comments about them like suggestions, etc, and the bug topic to fix them if is needed.

2. Request topic, is so cool, and many thanks to attend request of people like me by example, but is a mix of request and help code, where in my case is suggest to code a few cards, and I lost the feedback or the reply if is possible to do, so I don't see a post resume where which card were made and added into CW by example, is confused, and I dont pretend to be someone who claim your time, and I repect the code doubt to do new cards in this topic, so I suggest make a topic for code cards check or feedbacks and use the formal request card to have feedback if its possible to someone do those requests.

3. Multiplayer topic, I read about have the possibly to play online with CW decks, but I miss a topic for communicate with user of here and coordinate games, maybe organize tournaments in this forum, etc.

Very good suggestion about bug reports sepparately

1: Well, I made a bug reporting form and spreadsheet which updates with those reports automatically, but not everyone uses it. This is largely my fault, because I didn't make them particularly easy to find (I made it a long time after the CW was released and wasn't sure how well it would work). I'm in the process of getting a few things working for the modders here first (a major setback happened last night and we're still working to get it fixed). Once that's done, one of my long term goals is to organize the CW and its related discussions better. It's why there are multiple threads in the first place. So, you're absolutely right, and I agree.

2: The request topic has sort of just evolved to be the go-to thread for general questions. It was originally just for requests, but it very quickly became the single thread where every knowledgeable modder could answer your questions. It's actually where I first started posting, just coding random cards that people requested, and asked the better modders how to fix the pieces I didn't understand. Others did the same, and it turned into a thread for requesting not just cards or code, but also for help. And to be fair, someone pointed out once (I think it might have been TFM, but it's been a LONG time, so I'm not sure) that the title doesn't actually specify cards. It's just request. What you're requesting is a bit ambiguous. I'm not disagreeing with you, just explaining why it's like that. There's actually already a thread for requesting help with code. The problem is that only a few people ever see it. I do, and I know that RiiakShiNal will see any new posts on the forum. thefiremind recently posted there to assist me, so he may or may not get notifications for it. But beyond them, no one else has been active there for a long time because it's not in this subforum. It's in the programming subforum. It makes sense there, but it's not a location that many people see very often. I'll make a thread for coding and make an attempt to direct any coding assistance I ask for or grant there.

3: The best thread for that would be the Multiplayer Syncing Tool thread. It's not as good as a dedicated thread for it, though. When I get the server online, I'm already planning to make a system for getting multiplayer working better than that tool did. It'll be doing basically the same thing, but will skip the Google Drive hassle, which was a major problem. That tool is broken, by the way. If anyone wants to use it, I'll be happy to fix it (it's only broken because the folder it was supposed to use was changed and the tool was never updated). Until someone actually wants to use it, though, I'm not spending time on it.

I think the single largest obstacle to organization is simply that newer members don't know where to post various things. It would be nice to have a couple of sticky threads for the CW now that I'm pretty sure it's safe to say it's here to stay and has definitely become the main focus on the forum. Even just one sticky thread that we could modify when needed to direct people to various other threads would work nicely. However, I've already got a Community Wad website where people can get information, and it'll be more reliable in the future should I get a chance and the motivation to update it. In some respects we do kind of have sticky threads by linking to them from the wiki. Plus virtually every member can modify that page so it can be re-organized and updated by anyone (so if someone leaves or stops updating it someone else can take over seamlessly).

Fair point. I didn't think of the wiki, mostly because it's not really used for much. I think I'll set up an intro page for 2014 with links to useful threads and then scatter the link to that page among various other threads where new users are likely to see it.

I saw your bug report form, and by my own experience, when I coded mods for a game, and I make site, with bug forms, etc, was: Mostly of the users aren't structured like a coder or a microsoft ideal user, for that reason they are lazy to register in others sites, or write a form. In addiction the bug reporter have weak point, you can report, but you can't see if these bug was reported previosly and is attended or not. For my point of view one only threat posting only bugs will work here, and would be nice to see the updates changes by dates, this way we can know what was fix it, what is new, etc.

Are great news, until now is hard to see how many guys wanna play online with CW, because as I said, doesn't exist many threat to cordinate or register users to play, that could be a point of start. Only I can say, Im pretty sure this subforum is the most active of whole this site, and the visits are a relevant number to think of positive way to do something into the future, of course, if you can/wanna do it. No pression.

You don't have to have an account to report a bug. It doesn't even ask. You just fill in any of the boxes you want to (only the bug description box is required), and click submit. And the other page for reported bugs lets you see all bugs previously reported and previously corrected.

Well, we could make a new request thread specifically for cards. Given how absolutely massive the current request thread is, it would certainly make sense to start over eventually. However, it also makes a lot of sense having it all in one thread, because it's very convenient to search that one thread for a card name to see if it's been requested.

Well, my Dad has recently expressed hesitation for hosting the server at his house. His internet company keeps causing problems (unintentionally) with the server's ability to be reached over the internet. But even if that doesn't work, I have a different ISP, so I'll probably just end up hosting it myself. Time will tell.

User 2: request card B
User 3: request help code for card C
User 1: Ask about card A
User 4: helped code for card C
User 5: request card D
User 6: give feedback about the code of card C
User 4: Coded Card D

- Card A and B without response
- Posts without a clear way to follow and messy.

That's one I made a few weeks ago on the 9th, so it doesn't show that the Origins cards are done and it won't show any that others have made since then. I'll see about updating the second and third posts of the Community Wad thread.

I appreciate it. It helps to address the issue below, but for bug reports.
User 1: bug report for card A
User 2: bug report for card B
User 3: discuss card C
User 1: Ask about card A
User 4: respond to card C
User 5: bug report for card D
User 6: respond to card C again
User 4: Fixed Card D
Bug reports for cards A and B went unnoticed/unaddressed.

I definitely agree. Many times, I've gone back through the thread and collected the names of all of the cards that had been requested and not coded or otherwise addressed (like someone pointed out they were impossible), and there were usually quite a few. So yeah, I've noticed that same exact issue. I agree a thread for just card requests is a good idea.

Feel free. Just keep in mind that I can do a LOT more with a different program. Given the number of calculations and checks needed to do everything there, a spreadsheet isn't actually the best way to do it. It would be fine if I could use macros, but I don't know VBA very well. I've never spent much time on that since I made it. There's lots of room for improvement, so if you want to, go for it.
