How do people craft and make, then add, as a wad, their own cards to magic 2014?
i just wanna know if there is a tool that creates any card we can imagine
then compiles them as a wad, to play on Dotp 2014
theres so many decks, like these interesting 2019 cards

For making cards (other than simple cards) it is often a very manual process since card abilities are essentially programming routines.LexilconCondran wrote:How do people craft and make, then add, as a wad, their own cards to magic 2014?
There is no tool for creating any card we can imagine, though there are a couple of tools for attempting to create cards from Gatherer though they are somewhat error prone.LexilconCondran wrote:i just wanna know if there is a tool that creates any card we can imagine

then how did all the cards in all the mods come to be?RiiakShiNal wrote:For making cards (other than simple cards) it is often a very manual process since card abilities are essentially programming routines.LexilconCondran wrote:How do people craft and make, then add, as a wad, their own cards to magic 2014?There is no tool for creating any card we can imagine, though there are a couple of tools for attempting to create cards from Gatherer though they are somewhat error prone.LexilconCondran wrote:i just wanna know if there is a tool that creates any card we can imagine

just coding from past games, i used your dotp 2014 deck maker a ton
and just wondered how people crafted so many cards
a ton have black images though, some are blank, others fuzzy/gray/static
a few bugged cards here and there, but its great to make custom decks.
custom cards, is another dream entirely
what if there could be a engine/tool on this website to simply/easily make cards
like the website, MTGsmith, i used to make a butterfly deck
but somehow translated into a smart a.i automated engine that creates cards from that.
power, toughness, typings, costs, abilities, and such.
that would be kinda awesome. tons of coding though

This is where you can find how to code cards.
I have only successfully "coded" a very simple 2/2 creature with flying.. but I basically just ripped off one of the base cards and replaced the names in the card itself, and the picture.
It is extremely complex coding.

You can actually simplify it a lot if you make use of thefiremind's card generator: viewtopic.php?f=99&t=14736
It won't do any complex abilities, though. Those have to be coded manually. It can handle making the card's basic structure, however.
EDIT: To clarify, Riiak was basically pointing out that to make the abilities automated would be extremely complex. The rest of it, making the art come out right, getting the types and stats set up, etc., that's all relatively simple. Kind of a steep learning curve, but not too bad.
And also, for custom cards, note that the generator I linked to has a post somewhere mentioning local card generation. It's a post by me that provides a plugin for the tool to make cards based on what you provide. Search that thread for "local" and you should be able to find it. It works by you providing a txt file with the info you want on the card. It'll then pull that info in and make a card with those stats. If the abilities are simple enough to be coded by the generator, it'll also do that, otherwise it'll just put in the ability text. It'll have an example, if I remember right.

We (the contributors on the forum) coded the cards. We started off with simple cards learning by looking at how official/other cards were coded then worked our way up to more difficult cards. Sometimes the process was aggravating with lots of trial and error, some people had those they could ask questions to while others didn't and had to figure it out themselves.LexilconCondran wrote:then how did all the cards in all the mods come to be?

a few bugged cards here and there, but its great to make custom decks.
Later, contributors started developing tools (some have been released while other haven't) to make the job of creating things easier so they could make more in less time.
Not really a dream, since except for the official cards which came with the game all of the cards that are available are "custom" cards since they all had to be coded. We very easily could have ignored real Magic cards and just created our own variants and custom cards.LexilconCondran wrote:custom cards, is another dream entirely
The closest thing to what you want that has been released is probably thefiremind's card generator (as mentioned by Xander9009). Though it has plenty of limitations it is currently the easiest method of creating cards.LexilconCondran wrote:what if there could be a engine/tool on this website to simply/easily make cards
