When start with Thorn of Amethyst in deck, a dialog box will appear asking if I want to select it as a companion.
I can also pay 3 mana to add it to your hand.

It's because it returns 1 unconditionally. There is no way that's not an error, is there?

I don't know why it returns 1; It is like that at least since 2014 probably even before.
Also Helm of Awakening does the same.
