[fix/close]Creeping Renaissance returns to hand Tribal cards

Postby Aswan jaguar » 08 Jul 2016, 13:23

Describe the Bug:
Creeping Renaissance returns to hand all tribal cards even the non-permanent ones.

Which card did behave improperly ?
Creeping Renaissance

Which update are you using?(date, name)Which type(Duel,Gauntlet,Sealed Deck)
Manalink 2016/01/15: Battle For Zendikar v2,duel

What exactly should be the correct behavior/interaction ?
Creeping Renaissance doesn't allow you to pick tribal card type as it is not a permanent type.(edited-corrected)

Are any other cards possibly affected by this bug ?

Tribal shouldn't even be pickable.

I had read the rules but to me 1st the distinction tribal cards get from instants and sorceries in the rule text and 2nd that some tribal enter the battlefield and so are permanent in fact make me believe that the card is supposed to work like this (fetch the ones that are also enchantments, artifacts or whatever becomes a permanent and don't fetch sorceries, instants or any other non-permanent cards).

also IMHO according to the first and basic rule what is a permanent the tribal cards that enter the battlefield as permanent should be affected by Creeping Renaissance:
110.1. A permanent is a card or token on the battlefield. A permanent remains on the battlefield indefinitely. A card or token becomes a permanent as it enters the battlefield and it stops being a permanent as it’s moved to another zone by an effect or rule.

Creeping Renaissance doesn't care about permanents. It specifically asks for a "permanent type", and those are defined in 110.4. This is also addressed in a ruling specific to the card: "9/22/2011: The permanent types are artifact, creature, enchantment, land, and planeswalker."

Besides which, per rule 110.1 that you quoted, there aren't ever any permanents in graveyards, which is where Creeping Renaissance is looking for them.
