What's up with the Unhinged cards? They look the same as the regular cards, except I noticed that Keeper of the Sacred Word has an extra word "gotcha" in the top LH corner of the art.

Yeah. There are differences (usually slight) between some of the foil/non-foil cards in Unhinged. The foil Keeper of the Sacred Word is missing the 'Gotcha' sign, and the foil Laughing Hyena has white highlights in the upper part of the middle hyena's ear that aren't on the non-foil. As far as Mons's Goblin Waiters, there is supposedly a portion of a goblins ear that extends into the border, but when I look at the foil and non-foil together, all portions of every goblin's ear is the same as far as I can tell. Also, there is supposedly a green letter 'o' in the text box of Touch and Go, but I'm not seeing that either.

I've just been processing what's scanned for these, so I hadn't gone back and closely checked yet. Let's see!

Here are the non-foil versions:

ImageImageImageImage

The differences, according to Magic Librarities, are:

Mons' Goblin Waiters: Shows extended part of the ear of the right goblin on the right side of the border
Touch and Go: Green O in the text box
Keeper of the Sacred Word: Missing "Gotcha" in the upper left corner of the art box
Laughing Hyena: White dots on the middle donkey ears at the end

The Keeper one is pretty obvious once you know to look for it.

The Hyena and Waiters have described variations that I can't pick out with my own examination. Maybe someone else can spot them, or dragsamou can weigh in (I'm working off the list on his site.)

The Touch and Go one is apparently a misprint or variant as some do and some don't have it So maybe this is one that doesn't.

As far as I can tell there's no acknowledgement or explanation of these jokes on the Wizards site so we're having to rely entirely on second-hand info to find them.

Hi All

I will gladly contribute about the Unhinged Alternate Foils Cards, the list on Magiclibrarities has been verified back in the years by multiples members including me owning the Foils:

Mons's Goblin Waiters: Shows extended part of the ear of the right goblin on the right side of the border:
The extended part of the ear is indeed showing and printed on the silver border, you need to have the card in hand for a precised examination, orienting the card will do also a much better result. On a side note, it's interesting that the ear of the right goblin was modified from the Original Art. I could find back a zoom version from one of my albums on the internet:

Image

Laughing Hyena: White dots on the middle donkey ears at the end:
Same, this one needs a very close examination

Keeper of the Sacred Word: Missing "Gotcha" in the upper left corner of the art box:
Easy one to spot

The Touch and Go one is apparently a misprint or variant as some do:
I was the one that discovered that "variant" at first, I thought it was a regular Alternate Foil version, but I was the only one owning it, so I classify it as a Misprint after that, but with time, it was discovered that an estimate 30% of the Foil version were affected. We are still debating that particular issue on Magiclibrarities, but most of the Collectors do considered it as one from the 26.

I also noticed that the Question Elemental? was added in your scans, it's not on my list and I'll explain why as the subject was debated also for the R&D's Secret Lair:
The card was not not considered as an alternate art card, because the question marks in the text box are also printed on the non-foil version, even though they are barely visible, there's no other difference.

You didn't add Standing Army (Shows extended part of the sword on the right side of the border) it's the same as Mons's Goblin Waiters while it doesn't show at all on the regular card, it's visible on the Foil version.

PS1: You can find the Topic about them using the Search function on the forum under: Unhinged Foil 'specials'

PS2: Zhalfirin Knight Japanese Mirage showing in the post of Charlequin is the RPG Media insert (RPG #79 magazine addition) 1996-11 with different font size and style and different flavor punctuation.
This is the Standard version for comparison (Pic grabbed from the internet as I have no access to my scanner for now):

Image:

PS3: Charlequin, I will provide scans of the 4 Missing Unhinged Alternate Foils Cards as soon as I can and if needed:
Blast from the Past
Greater Morphling
Old Fogey
Touch and Go
I will try to scan the Mons's Goblin Waiters in a way that it shows the extended ear (If possible)

Let me know, if you need further info.

Thanks for all the info!

Mons's Goblin Waiters is my mistake, then. If gleavitt can re-upload his original scan, I can reprocess it to capture the ear overlapping the border.

The Touch and Go scan we have is of the non-misprint version, then. We should get the other version for completeness.

I believe that means that the remaining list is

Blast from the Past
Greater Morphling
Old Fogey
Standing Army
Touch and Go (green O variant)

I can finish up the set if I get scans of those from either gleavitt or dragsamou.

My pleasure. I will provide scans whenever I will be able to (Hoping that they will match the other scans that you proceeded already), I forget yesterday to add a cropped zoom version of the Greater Morphling, so you know what I'm talking about when mentioning: Stick going from the head to the left tube. Also the Laughing Hyena scan that you have doesn't show: White dots on the middle donkey ears at the end (Which are in fact extended parts of the ears of the middle donkey)

BTW everybody, we're down to just four Expeditions we still need:

Dust Bowl
Ancient Tomb
Rugged Prairie
Sacred Foundry

So close! If anyone can help us polish off the last four scans here, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Thanks to gleavitt, I've fixed up both of the cards with the minor elements left out of the border. The difference is small and subtle, but important! Fulls and XLHQs of both in the MEGA folder.

While they might be insignificant, they are indeed important as a lot of Unhinged cards have illustrations overlapping the silver border, but only 3 were affected like this. Of course, there's a technical explanation for it, as the extended part should have been on the regular card like the others. In my theory, during the printing process the silver border was applied after the illustrations for these cards, while it should have been before, I believe that's the reason it shows only on the foil version. Maybe someone has another theory, but it seems the most logical one to me.

Finally clearing out the last of the Intro Pack promos. Thanks to tenminutegod for scanning these for me!

Fate Reforged:

And Magic Origins:

(The fifth Origins intro card was, of course, scanned some time ago:)

And speaking of Intro Pack cards, I noticed that the DTK Intro Pack cards were misprocessed so they were overly blurry, so I uploaded fixed versions, if anyone wants to replace those.

I'm not sure who collects and updates the cards from the 'Missing Promos List' but I've had all the missing prerelease cards from before SOI and most of the missing SOI prerelease cards in my dropbox share for a while now. I have a friend who owns an expedition Dust Bowl so I'll see if I can borrow it to get a scan shared. I also noticed there are no high res scans of the early set prerelease cards when they were printed in foreign languages (Invasion through Torment I think), so I have added those to my dropbox share in case you want to make high res versions of them. I also shared a scan of the new FNM Spatial Contortion.

I'm simultaneously working on a data base project of my own design which I plan to turn into a collection management tool eventually. Most of the current tools I've tried using are missing a significant number of the promotional cards in their databases and don't handle grouping the way I would like. As I find card images missing from the collection, I will let you know.
