i don't get what people have against "battlefield." what else would you call it? it's what the field of battle is called in all sorts of eras. o.O if i recall correctly, the Rohirrim charging onto the field of Pelennor were taking the, um... battlefield.

Yea, thats LOTR, not a card game, where play fits best as the naming of the in-game zone.FirePenguinMaster wrote:i don't get what people have against "battlefield." what else would you call it? it's what the field of battle is called in all sorts of eras. o.O if i recall correctly, the Rohirrim charging onto the field of Pelennor were taking the, um... battlefield.

LotR was also made into a cardgame. They used the term "battlefield."
there's nothing intrinsically sci-fi about the word "battlefield" so all this hullabaloo about "oooooh magic with phasers" is just garbage. the idea is to bring more flavor into the game so we're not using "cards with card attribute 01 in mode 03A may not be interacted with by other cards in mode 03B unless those cards also have attribute 01." (translation: flying...but there's nobody having a cow about that)

For me personally I am pretty happy about the M10 announcement. I played so long ago, and got rid of so many cards, that I pretty much need to buy the core set to catch back up. Now I find out that the core set will actually have new cards. Between this and Alara Reborn I am very happy to be getting back into the game now. There are some combo-tastic things that we can do with Alara Reborn and I hope M10 continues this with more good card drawing and more tutoring!
Fingers crossed... Prosperity, if you are going to make a comeback now is the time

I'm undecided on the new names... I like the flavor feel of it, but it goes against 15 years of cards. It makes me wonder, why don't they take player out of the vocab an replace it with planeswalker? (besides the fact that "Target player gains 4 life" problem.)
I like being bad... it makes me happy...

Ok... seriously... I read all the changes made in M10 and I dont have any problem with most of them, well, maybe the mana burn issue, i kinda like mana burn, but one particular thing realy pissed me off... combat damage no longer uses the stack!!? OMFG!! That just errased thousands of stratagies and "exploits" during combat!! I mean my U CTRL was just busted because of that... no more " before the damage resolves I return my "whatever" creature to my hand and your reature dies... as well as mogg fanatic being totaly busted...
I'm sorry I'm whining, I love magic but this change, realy made me want to... uuurgh... well other than that, Ball Lightning is back to standard =P

I already discussed the issue on the slovak forum, and I am not the only one who finds the dmg rulings really bad :-/

Seriously!! The only thing noobs have to do to undertand the game is actualy READ the rules when they have any doubts... no one taught me how to play "serious" MTG... and it's not hard either... now, the funniest part of the game, the part where you really put your brain to work and test your knollage of the game's rules is completeley ruinned!! Thanks R&D... and now i know... noobs shall allways be noobs because all of the word's will is bent to them!! *slowly kneels and shruggs*

Yes, that is exactly what it means, and it never made any sense. That's why they changed it. "Our guy swing their swords at the same time. My guy dies, but somehow his sword still hits your guy." Does that make any sense at all? No. No it doesn't.meep.o.matic wrote:but one particular thing realy pissed me off... combat damage no longer uses the stack!!? OMFG!! A couple of alternative solutions were proposed in the IRC discussion. One of them would make even less sense than the current version ("If I pump my guy into a 19/19 titan after his sword starts swinging, he doesn't deal any extra damage. Yet if I drop his toughness to 0 for any reason (making him leave play), he deals no damage at all? How does that make sense?"), and the other would've been a rules nightmare (something like Split Second with an exception for damage prevention... I can't imagine how that could be anything other than more trouble than it was worth).

I really understand the flavor they are bringing back to MTG but to take out rules like mana burn (IMO it's very flavorable: you get more mana that you can use, you hurt yourself, kinda like overdose)and that combat thing... they are also taking part of the game's strategy with it. I speak for myself, I LIVE for combat tricks, i'ts one of the most exciting parts of the game.
Let's hope somehow the combat phase can remain as thrilling as it was... well kind of.
I'm also aware that pre 6th Edition this was how it used to be, plus that artifact rule that made pretty good sense to me flavor wise.I imagine how players would have talked trash (pretty much like me) before they accepted the current rules. I'm not quitting MTG, never, but I hope they dont take out important parts such as maximum hand size in the near/far future...

AFAIK, they edited starting life and hand size with Vanguard, but it didnt get that popular, luckily

"Honor of the Pure" is wrongly named "Honor the Pure" - at least in the crops that is. And "Griffin Sentinel" is missing completely.
