LotR - The Fellowship of the Ring

so a long time ago i asked (the currently awol) extreme about the possibility of adding other games to the CCGHQ's list of offered material. he said that it was always the idea to archive multiple games, and that Magic had thusfar been the only one they could get scans for.

i would personally like to see Decipher's "Lord of the Rings" game added to the list of HQ scans this team makes available. i personally have thousands of cards in very good condition that i can scan and contribute to the effort. there might be some gaps in my collection, though, especially past the first three sets. but you gotta start somewhere, right?

so. following extreme's paradigm, i have a sample scan to make sure my scanner is up to snuff. let me know if they're usable! :) (i am kinda assuming there are other team-members who retouch the scans besides extreme...)

FPM ~ I'm jealous. I know my scanner isn't good enough, and my Decipher Star Wars cards aren't in good enough condition for me to even bother scanning them in

yeah i can see how the card quality would be an issue with a LOT of the legacy type archiving, unless we can find someone who's just a straight-up collector. unfortunately, i'm more of a player than a collector, so most (if not all) of my good cards have some wear on them. it's the junk rares that are probably in the best condition. XD

but i'm sure if we look hard enough we can find SOMEONE crazy enough to have just bought the cards and put them into storage to await the day when they are called upon to go into digital storage. *crosses fingers*

not awol anymore :)
jeez, nothing happens for a loooooooong time, I go on holidays, next thing I know, people were actually looking for me :D

As i already said in my PM, great idea and initiative. The scan is also very good. The only thing I'm wary about is the wear and the lack of complete sets.

thought this might come in handy:

http://lotrtcgdb.com/

it's a database of all the cards ever printed. Decipher's site has been down for ages, so i was actually very excited to find this.

in the future there's no need to send the raw files, they are huge. A good quality jpeg is enough (quality 10 in PS for example, or 95% in other programs). THe scans are good.
The database is very nice, and has quite big images.

Here they are. The thing is we should decide: do we keep the current magic size of the images ? I can also do them a bit bigger, at 300 dpi.
And how do we release them ?
If i guessed right, the code is edition/rarity/collector number. There are a lot of cards in the first edition.
What does the "•" before the title mean ?

the Haldir scan looks good, just a touch overexposed. i forgot to mention which scans were truest to color quality of the actual printed cards with my first post; sorry about that. the blue on the Elven cards should look more like the scan of Support of the Last Homely House, and the Dwarven cards should be matched to Axe Strike. i'll be sure to mention which scans are truest in my following submissions.

the right side of this image is closer to what the actual print looks like.

@orban-
alternate language cards exist, but i only have a very small number of them. there was one set ("Reflections," set 9) that would insert one random card from a random set in a random language in each booster. you can see how it would be nearly impossible to get a complete set like that. the only ones i remember getting from that are a Portugese site and a german Aragorn. but yes, they do technically exist.

correct: the code on the bottom-right is the collector's info. there are 365 cards in the large sets (sets 1, 4, and 7...after that it gets kinda weird with alternate template foils that may or may not get their own collector's number... i stopped playing after set 10 because it was just too far gone from when the game started) and 122 cards in the small sets. set 9 was a special set and only consists of 52 cards, but they're all rare and all foil. that one will be fun to scan... *twitch*

for the first couple sets, i think we SHOULD be able to release as the entire set... i'm reasonably sure i have immediate access to all the cards from the first 3 sets, but after that i might be missing a few rares until we get to sets 7, 8 and 10... i'll probably need to do some shopping for those. i'm not sure if i even bought any cards from set 10 when it was originally released. O.o

the dot indicates a unique card. it's basically the equivalent of a Legendary card in magic.

and there seems to be a set 0, what about it ?
