World Championship Decks (WCD) 1997-2004

Greetings CCGHQ!

I'm opening a new thread specific for XLHQ scans of World Championship Decks (WCD), since I couldn't find another dedicated one.

Can someone kickstart this by giving me an update on the status:
- What has been done? Are we at the starting line?
- Who is willing to work on this? (Scans/Postprocessing)
- If you can provide scans, which sets do you have in NM/M conditions?

I have a few decks myself, I did some experiment scans but I think i'm not as good as you guys with the postprocessing:

EDIT: I can't post image links as new user :(

Cheers

I have two decks currently scattered among old boxes so finding all the cards might prove difficult (if possible at all) but I'll upload every card I can find in my MEGA folder. Below is listed every card I found so far and the ones that are strikethrough have been uploaded.

MEGA Folder Link

1998 - Randy Buehler
Missing all the promo material and the sideboard Grindstone. Otherwise complete.

2000 - Janosch Kühn

We don't have these, nor the Pro Tour Collector Set 1996. There are a total of 40 decks. We needs scans of the biography inserts, decklist inserts, blank cards, tokens, etc. ABU Games lists all of the cards with extras. Magic Librarities only lists the extras but is easier to browse.

@JohnnyTH - There is some "noise" in your scans. Please follow the directions here under the How to Scan heading. Don't process your scan, we want to see the raw scan to diagnose the problem.

@Fizz - We have tried processing cards from multiple contributors in the past. It is very difficult to color match the scans so they feel like they belong together. If we only have two people, we can make it work but in general we need complete sets.

Thanks to both of you.

I'm happy to scan for people if you send me the cards. And I'll happily send them back if someone can pay for return shipping.

@skibulk I can see where processing cards from different contributors can become a headache and I do appreciate you sharing the site past experiences with this kind of issue. I'll leave what I've done so far with the Janosch Kühn deck on MEGA but won't scan anything else for it since I'm sure I'm missing more than half the cards. As far as the Randy Buehler deck goes, I've found every card but the one sideboard Grindstone and the promo materials.

Thank you for your reply skibulk, never mind my scanner, it's really bad, if we get this going i can borrow a decent scanner from a friend and send you all the raw scans.

I don't mind purchasing the missing decks, i think this site is a valuable resource for everyone involved in magic, but i would first like to know which one are covered by someone

None of the decks have been scanned yet. Canon makes good scanners for the most part. Please send a test scan with your "new" scanner before you commit to scanning all the decks.

I found the rest of the cards for the 1998 Randy Buehler deck including all the promo and tip cards so you can consider that deck complete. The cards were all rescanned in 1200 DPI and can be found in my MEGA Folder.

Also to whoever maintains the list in the previous post, I'm missing most of the cards for the 2000' Janosh Kuhn deck so 99% scan status is something I can't even come close to.

Got the package from rotarydials!

Started the scans with the empty boxes that were sent.
http://deckmaster.info/images/scans/ProTourBox.zip

Not quite sure how we want to process these (perhaps a single high res image with the main box unfolded, one with the 4 pairs boxes, one with the inner box unfolded, and 4 for the page pairs which should probably be edited how they would be printed as opposed to folded — I scanned that way to not have to take the staple out).

Not sure if anyone cares since this is awkward to categorize, but I'm happy to host the images.

I'm sorry. I've been busy with other stuff lately. I should have some more time later in a couple weeks to get more of the scans done. The boxes are done and up.

@kudit: My pm response to your reply is stuck in my outbox, so I am going to post it here: hq or xlhq is fine. If you could batch rename xlhq's to .full.jpg, that would work as well. I've been trying to find an android-compatible renaming tool, but nothing I've encountered works without issues.

No worries. Just didn't want you to think I was secretly enjoying the decks or something! More in 2 weeks...

Yes, we're in the process of producing the decks and should start to actually release them pretty soon.

rotarydials, can you actually provide a scan of the three types of blank cards? I believe we missed most of them in the mass scanning of the decks.

rotarydials wrote:Both of these conditions are important, as I found that the blank cards in the decks don't agree with Magic Librarities in one case.

1999 - 5ED frame without a bevel * Magic Librarities listed Kai Budde's 1999 deck blank cards to have a "with bevel" printing, while other blank cards from other decks that year did not. I did not find this to be the case; my Kai Budde deck blank cards were the same as the other decks.
Hi

As I was not the one that added that subsection or did opened that Kai Budde's deck back in the years, but I totally trust that info. I went to look back at what you mentioned:

Usually all blank cards are identical in each deck. However, in case of the 1999 World Championships deck by Kai Budde, a single blank card with bevelled edges was inserted, while all other blank cards of the deck have plain edges.
So, 12 Blank cards in Kai Budde's deck. Out of the 12:
11 blank cards frame without a bevel
1 blank card with a bevel

To make sure when yours was opened:
12 blank cards frame without a bevel

Looks like, that when it comes to that specific deck, 2 variants exist then. Question is, was that a lonely case or from one to another Kai Budde's deck (or another deck), you can find the 2 variants ?

I can't help on that matter, all the World Championships Decks that I own belong to my sealed collection. It will be interesting to find out so I can modify the info in the index.

One question, why do you name them 5Th Edition Frame ?
