Digital Tokens for Pre-10E Sets

Postby charlequin » 01 Sep 2017, 06:27

One last thing I've had on the backburner for a while to toss out here: what I think is pretty close to a comprehensive batch of tokens for all sets released before physical tokens started appearing in packs with 10E.

All these tokens are assembled with the frames matching (approximately) their time of release, grouped per block in the same fashion as modern sets (i.e. a given token only appears in the first set of the block where a card can create it, even if later sets make the same token), and created using official artwork as present in the MTGO client. I've selected higher-res versions of that art where available and made at least a good-faith effort to match illustrations to the correct sets, though there's definitely no guarantee I've been 100% successful.

All the images are available in More Releases > Digital Tokens. Please let me know if you spot anything funky -- there's usually a few mistakes in something like this so I'm expecting to do a few touchups if needed.

Do you think you can do these in 200dpi/full format?

Minor Pickle -> CMD Wolf uses SOM "Blue Spirit" art. Since the token is for the Worldwake card Bestial Menace, it should use the Zendikar artwork.

Also here's some other tokens that never saw print:

4/6 colorless Golem artifact creature - The Iron Guardian Stirs
2/3 green Antelope creature with forestwalk - Master of the Wild Hunt Avatar
3/2 green Cat creature with shroud - Master of the Wild Hunt Avatar
3/3 green Elemental creature token - Evil Comes to Fruition
Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V

Oh and thanks of course to ahkren whose HQ Card Generator I used to render these and whose initial sorting of token illustrations was vital in pulling this together.

One other thing: there's a folder in this called "VMA" which has five tokens with 2s in the name. These are tokens with illustrations matching what I currently get in MTGO for these five VMA cards. Mostly these are repeats of art used in other digital or printed tokens, but there's one exception: Daarken did a unique art for a black Wurm token to go with his new illustration for Penumbra Wurm, so that's included there:

I swapped the wolf for the Innistrad image. The Golem was already there for ARC but I added the Elemental as well. I don't think I'm going to do the Avatar-specific tokens for now.

I'll do 200 DPIs eventually but I want to wait until I'm sure there are no other fixes since keeping them in sync will be a pain.
