SO we would not differenciate TIP and INS then?
How should the files be named for those?

I'd consider anything that is not a named card or a token to be an "insert".
The thing is that these cards have no official numerical order or collector's number as do real cards. So any Tip_01 ... Tip_05 naming sequence will be subjective. Some people will get confused and think that you can only have a Tip_01 with a matching Back_01 where you actually can have many combinations. Tokens usually have the same ad-backs as the tip cards - although I assume we're going to ignore this and lump the backs with the insert images.
Magic Album names for these cards are somewhat subjective too, given that these inserts have no official name. Still I think I prefer these names to numbers.
edit: I think we do need to keep the prepended Tip_ or Back_ to the inserts if we use "names" instead of numbers. Otherwise it may be confusing as to which is which.

Is there any case where crops are different between 2 languages or can I safely assume that crops are all the same for all languages?

There are a bunch of cards with depictions of human skeletons where the art had to be altered for the Chinese version. There are a couple examples at this link, but it's definitely not limited to those two:

I don't know about other regions.

Yes but a bunch of ad "fronts" are not numbered AVR, D12, DKA, I2P...deurk wrote:Backs have no number, but tips do actually.skibulk wrote:The thing is that these cards have no official numerical order or collector's number as do real cards. Also, there are a bunch of alternate art cards documented here (Right side, midway down under "Standard Alternate Art Cards"). I think we're missing scans for a bunch of these.
@huggybaby
Since some inserts are unnumbered ad fronts and some are are tip fronts, maybe we should just go with Front_Store Locator.jpg, Front_The Stack.jpg, Back_DotP 2013.jpg, Back_Friday Night Magic.jpg for consistency? Or maybe Front1_Two-Card Combos.jpg, Front5_Parts of the Turn.jpg, and just Front_ for ad fronts?

I think appending is better than prepending. Remember that the naming scheme must be comfortable to humans, that's one of the things that separates this from other collections.

Another question: How do we name split cards, flip cards and other 2-names cards?
What separator do we use? Space, underscore, none?

MWS uses none I think: http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=367379
Does MA use underscore? Hmm. What do other apps use?
How about Fire_Ice.flip.full.jpg? Just kidding.

I think underscore works well, if it is not already the convention of another special character

Question: why isn't there any crops for tokens? And we start adding them somewhere, where should they end up? In the CRP section, or along the TOK ones?

Crops for tokens don't exist and would be problematic to do given the different sizes of the art area. You have old MPR tokens with square art, newer vanilla tokens with the big oval art and smaller circular looking art when the token is not vanilla. Not really a croppable situation.
