I'm trying to download the collection of magic cards and it seems like the project has fallen out. I see some suggestions for scryfall, but are the pictures equivalent to the XLHQ images from the old collection? If not, is there another place I can get them?

Yes. You can also use Magic Album pictures torrent to quickly get the pictures (it includes only HQ sets).

Yes, because we don't have XLHQs for them It seems Scryfall is the best you can get now.
