Collectible Card Game Headquarters

Hi all,

Since extreme seems rather busy this couple of weeks, I've decided to take it upon myself to help get the HD card art for Magic 2013 going, and possibly other future sets. Unfortunately, I'm generally always short of many cards, and could really use your help to get the art for the cards.

I've made it really easy to do this though, especially for those with smart phones. I've been doing tests, and card photos instead of scans are good enough for our purposes.

Steps to help:

1) Head over to

http://www.mtgo-stats.com/card_scan

to see which cards we still require.

2) If you have the card, just snap the card with your smart phone or related device, click on the link in the page (which will pop up a nicely formatted email) and send it over.

Photo tips: we will require a photo of the card in clear, bright light (preferably neutral sunlight) against a neutral background.

iOS tips: to attach a photo to an open email, just switch to your Photo Gallery, copy it by long pressing, then paste it into the email by long pressing.

We will then retouch the photo as required. An example card photo taken from our Samsung Galaxy Ace is shown below.

Also, we will be more than happy to provide a complimentary copy of any of our apps (see http://www.deckedbuilder.com) for every 30 photos / scans that we accept and use from any email address.

This example you have posted is of inferior quality. All of our set releases are created from high quality card scans, as explained in Extreme's Scanning Basics Post. Digital Photographs are not advised, as the touch-up work required is excessive, and the end-product's accuracy/consistency is poor.

I appreciate your concerns, and it's certainly possible to send scanned images to the website highlighted. We have already received 30 cards, most of them scanned.

However, my thinking on receiving photos is that it's better to have some HD card photos, even if they are of inferior quality, rather than none. We can always use extreme's final images if/when they are released.

As an example, I have attached one of the already received images for Magic 2013 (after retouching) below. I think you can appreciate how good it looks compared to the Gatherer image.

Do you have any scans / photos that you would like to share?

I think multiple people doing the same thing is a bad practice. I have no problem waiting a couple of weeks if Extreme and others cannot make it now because of personal reasons (vacations etc.).

There is no reason why others can not produce there own images if they so choose to. They may also choose to offer it to others. The HQ team will decide on what to keep / publish in there project. I just want to make sure the others are aware of the possible issue you may run into with Hasbro / Wizards. Just keep that in mind. I personally would like a copy of the raw un-edited images that they recieved.

Aye, I can certainly send over the scans once complete -- but so far, no one is submitting images from this board.

I'm quite worried that the "official" CCGHQ zips would contain pics sourced from crappy smartphone camera. Quality flatbed scanner is really the only option here. Is there a list of scans needed for Extreme, or are we just waiting on him to process them? I'm find wait waiting either way.

I heard something about him not having time. I know you and I have been the ones getting the scans for the team over the last few sets and this time around I'm not opening packs. I'm going to wait till an entire set of cards is available by an online vendor such as MTGOTraders.com and purchase the electronic form of the cards and redeem them for paper.

I won 2 boxes (two diff prereleases) and had pre-ordered another, so I'm quite sure I have just about every card. There is probably a junk rare or two missing though. I'd scan them all, but if Extreme is busy, there's no point right now.

Well if anyone wants to take a stab at it, we are only short four more cards, all mythics I think...

Allright then. Anyone can do anything one wants, of course. The problem is, the way I do them, in my experience it's a very bad idea to have small batches of cards from many scanners. It's hard enough correcting for one. In theory, with great scanners (and calibrated ones, that is) it would work. In practice, it's a mess. That's why I always waited for woogerboy. If you, Ark, have most of them, please scan them - no rush anyway, I'm still working on Planechase 2 - you have always had great scans. Thanks !

Tanthorjen, I saw on Decked Builder that you need M13 Sunpetal Grove and Worldfire ? I can scan it for you later today.

Thanks Phuncz... not sure if we finally used your images, but you should get an email from us if we did finally use your image in the final set.

Anyway, the M2013 set is complete on my end... how do I send up the images to you guys?
