Scans in foreign languages (PT/SP/FR/IT/GE)

Postby Polyglot66 » 11 Dec 2016, 15:45

Hi there
My name is Eduardo, I'm a Brazilian translator.
I love learning languages by translating MTG cards and I heard about this great website.
I've been looking for cards with good definition in five other languages for months now, but up to now I've found nearly nothing.
The languages I learn are English, Portuguese, Spanish, French, Italian and German.
The editions in which I'm mostly interested are the ones until Apocalypse, but I'd gladly take any other editions as well.
Thank you in advance,
Eduardo Andrade

I do not know how this site is complete.
You intrigued me, how you proceed in learning through cards?

I've found a few more editions I didn't have on this website you suggested.
Thank you so much.

Well... To learn words, I read the flavour text of a card in English first. Then I read it in other languages and make connections.
It's a loooot easier to learn a language when you're interested in what you're reading. I love the story behind MTG and I've been translating cards for ten years now. I've done that with a lot of passion and now I'm a translator, owing a good deal of my vocabulary to MTG cards.

Then I start watching videos on YouTube to catch pronunciation and learn day-to-day vocabulary.
Do it every day, and after a few months you'll be able to speak any language reasonably well. :D
It's going to take some time, but you'll pleased with what you've achieved.

Thank you for sharing your method of study, this type of knowledge is just the previous step to the direct experience. Now I know a method that works for some :)

As a DOTP2014 modder, I can say that we have a lot of cards we have modded that could benefit from some translations. If you'd like to put your translations out there for others to use, the DOTP2014 mod could use your help. Some cards have the translations already, so you could also use those to learn and compare.

Hi I'm from Poland and my native language is Polish but I bought my first MTG before 2000 and I can says that I didn't understand a word but there is not a lot of words on the cards. You can always use dictionary. I thinking to get back to hobby again. I have few decks (white , red, blue and black) from 1994.
