I guess something like "die Herausforderung annehmen" (accepting the challenge) or "der Herausforderung gegenüberstehen" (more literal)...
"I'm facing the challenge" would be "ich nehme die Herausforderung an" or "ich stehe der Herausforderung gegenüber"

You could also try "sich der Herausforderung stellen", which is more or less idiomatic for "to face the challenge" ... But as silly freak already demonstrated, more context would help, expecially considering that German does more declension and conjugation than English.

Nice surprise about this shorter form. Can you tell us what it is you are talking/writing about?
Has any info. about this shorter form been posted before (and i just missed it)?
