Non-canonical flavor text on tokens
by Korath » 15 Aug 2015, 01:51
Currently seven tokens in Manalink have flavor text, despite never having been printed with them. (Two more, Soldier and Squirrel, have flavor text from their classic-style tokens, as seen here and here.) They are:
So as long as the CSV ball is in my court, so to speak, and I'm doing things like adding missing flavor text anyway (including from the other dozen or so classic-era token cards), it occurs to me to ask - do these bother you guys as much as they do me?
- Marit Lage, from Dark Depths - "Badass"
- Pegasus, from Pegasus Refuge, Pegasus Stampede, Sacred Mesa, and Storm Herd - "Flap flap flap."
- Plant, from Avenger of Zendikar, Evil Comes to Fruition, Khalni Garden, and Nature Shields Its Own - "“Let it grow, let it grow. Let it blossom, let it flow.”—Eric Clapton"
- Prism, from Diamond Kaleidoscope - "Shine on you crazy diamond.—Pink Floyd"
- Reflection, from Pure Reflection (unimplemented) and Spirit Mirror - "Mirror, mirror on the wall . . ."
- Rukh, from Rukh Egg (though, strictly speaking, that should reuse Bird) - "Called “stonefeathers” by many lowlanders, rukhs are thought to descend from a phoenix that sacrificed its flame for a body of stone." (copied from Rukh Egg's 8th- and 9th-edition flavor text)
- Wood, from Jungle Patrol - "“Burn, baby, burn !”"
So as long as the CSV ball is in my court, so to speak, and I'm doing things like adding missing flavor text anyway (including from the other dozen or so classic-era token cards), it occurs to me to ask - do these bother you guys as much as they do me?

I don't mind removing most of them although some are both suitable and witty in my opinion.I am against removing Rukh Egg one if it is originally set from microprose as I think it is.

I agree with AJ on this one. Any of the flavor text that was in the original Microprose game should stay; any that wasn't should be removed unless they appear on the printed card.

None of the MicroProse tokens had flavor text, though they all had rules text (mostly similar to "Flying\nDjinn of the Bottle counts as an artifact creature."). The flavor text now on Rukh first appeared on the 8th edition Rukh Egg.

Don't mind them removed, there is already plenty of interesting tidbits in the readme and in the code itself.

Aww!
Three of them are mine.
Prism - “Shine on you crazy diamond.”—Pink Floyd
Plant - “Let it grow, let it grow. Let it blossom, let it flow.”—Eric Clapton
Wood - “Burn, baby, burn !”

I'm against removing our custom flavor text, as they're traces of who actively contribute to the project on all these years (the "Badass" quote is probably by Jatill, but I'm not sure).
