No More Rapidshare...Please!
by Bog Wraith » 23 Nov 2009, 13:24
I'm strongly requesting that people stop posting files to Rapidshare, a misnomer if there ever was one!
The place is a fu*#ing nightmare to download from. Wether you have to wait forever to finally get the link active, or even worse, reach your "limit" with a small file and then have to wait yet again to get the next file, I absolutely despise the place!
I know Mediafire isn't perfect but IMHO, it is FAR better then that other garbage. There are also other services out there as well.
So please use another service and leave Rapidshare behind, or post the files a second time at another site as well!
BTW, the work done by Salbei has been outstanding, a great addition to the wonderful work done by Huggy, Jatill and others who continue to make ManaLink an incredible endeavor. I haven't been here very much in the last few months and won't be here very much in the future, but I just wanted to say thanks to all these great people, and many more I didn't mention, who have contributed so much to this game we all love.
Thank you all!

I hate Rapidshare, too. But I hate Mediafire more, due to the ads and popups. Is there an alternative to both of these? Savefile.com was my preference until they, you know, dropped of the face of the internet. I think they'll be back up right about the same time as manalink.de.

That's right, someone around here has been using axifile. Maybe I'll try that next time (if there is a next time). What are the drawbacks?Triadasoul wrote:Axifile.com, rghost.ru, filefactory.com ?

I think there is none. Waiting - yes, but no "our free slots are full"

I uploaded the latest release to axifile:
http://axifile.com?3880192
The downsides I see now are that it limits parellel downloads to 3 at a time, and that upload speed is glacial. I can live with those.

Thanks Fellas! I really appreciate you looking at & trying alternative sites.
Let's see what other options there are out there that other folks might come up with that can add to our choices.

Use torrents if you (we) don't have a semi-dedicated file server. Always put the date in the filename, imho.
That is to say, "also" use torrents. File servers (Mediafire), mod sites (gamespy), abandonware sites, etc. are still fine for (last resort) backups if you can't get them anyplace else.

Doesn't this forum have an "upload file" option? I think it does...

It has it's limit. Once you reach it you should search your attachments and delete them.

If you use Firefox with adblock plus, MediaFire has no ads. Regardless, a few ads are a hell of a lot better than wait times, heavily restricted downloads, no parallel download ability and no resume support.

It's amazing how many people do not use adblock plus it is about the most ingenious thing ever invented for the internet. Banners have become more then just static things with a picture on it some of them are so annoying id rather gouge my eyes out then look at them.
Adblock plus is one of the reasons firefox owns all the competition.
