@aww1979: I tried using debug to test that, and it wouldn't play a 2nd Pendelhaven if there was a first in play. I tried the same thing for Isamaru, with the same result. Maybe it's just one of those things where the AI brainfarts (for example I have seen it Terror it's own creature for no reason when I had legal targets in play before). Not sure why that happens. Another possibility is that usually the AI would rather play spells to it's detriment instead of discard down to 7 at eot, not sure if that's the case here. Shrug.

@Zeek: That is indeed very strange! When I loaded your game save state, I did not experience any life gain... Have you tried loading it from the same game save? Just wondering if you'll experience it again, or not like me. All I can think of is that our versions of Magic differ somehow, or maybe another program you had running was interfering somehow? I don't know much about these things... but there's obviously something different going on.

I just had the same thing happen in a multi-player game, twice; couldn't find any way to save the game state, but I thought that at least I would confirm that I've seen it since the last update too.

The odd thing is that in one of the games, I was mana short so I had only played 2 forests and discarded a couple of cards. My opponent said that I kept processing the Rules Engine.

Hope it helps.

Okay, yes I did, but I think when I first reloaded it, I wasn't keeping track of what I did.

I just reloaded it a few times. It's gotta something to do with Squee and/or Survival of the Fittest, because I know my next planned turn was to pitch Squee, search up Arcanis, cast him and immediately tap for 3 cards since all creatures have haste. I found with a few reloads that if I return Squee to my hand but don't cast him, I can tap mana and cast the Mox Pearl and such without gaining any life, but as soon as I discard him to Survival or choose to leave him in my graveyard, is starts up again, regardless of which creature card I search for.

Edit: Okay, it has nothing to do with Survival. I went and used debug mode to put a Taiga, Anger, and Squee in play, then summoned up a Nantuko Husk to start sacrificing them. As soon as Squee hit the graveyard, the wild lifegain started, and after the Husk ate Anger, Squee, a Skirk Prospector (lol, Anger isn't a Goblin XD), and itself, I have 274 life. As for the version, I'm pretty sure I'm using Jatill's latest posted one (20090716.zip?) along with Windows XP.

Yeah, I tried a couple of different plays, inc. fetching up Arcanis, but to no effect. I also tried debugging the situation you explained, but nothing :? At least we know the problem is constant for you. I can only assume the issue is on your end somewhere (this is probably similar to how Gifts Ungiven will crash the game on some computers, but not others) - I just wish I knew what it could be.

If you, or anyone else that has greater computer knowledge than me, can think of any ideas about what could be going on here, please post them on this thread. As of now, I'm completely stumped... #-o

EDIT: Just an idea, but I wonder if it has anything to do with the original copy of the Microprose game you applied the updates to... For example, I had the Underdogs rip version of the game... would that make sense? I can't check it right now, since I'm visiting the folks' for dinner, but when I get home I'll try installing a different copy of the game. If that doesn't work, I'll try installing the game on a different computer. Shrug, it's gotta be something...

EDIT 2: Has anyone else experienced the 'Barbarian Ring' bug? I seem to remember seeing a screenshot of it on these forums somewhere....

@aww1979: does Gifts Ungiven work for you if you cast it in the opponent's turn? This is how it works for me, and since you are the only other person to have reported problems with the card, I wonder if the problems are the same... Also, did you add the updates to the Underdogs version of the game or another version? Would be great if we could solve these mysteries!

Gifts Ungiven always crashes the game for me too. If I cast it on my turn, as soon as it starts to resolve the error closes the game. I once cast it on the opponent's turn, and was at least prompted to choose four cards before the error crashed it again.

Squee apparently doesn't even need Anger either. I've been playing that same deck (tweaked it here and there) and just ignoring the fact that Squee + any way to dump him into the graveyard = best lifegain deck ever. It's not too gamechanging if I manually keep track of my lifepoints and just forfeit any game in which I would die, but yeah.

Also, I wanted to comment on the legendary land thing brought up earlier. While someone claimed the AI understood the concept of legendary permanents and someone else claimed they didn't, I witnessed the AI pilot my elf deck so horribly that my land destruction deck, despite being horribly mana screwed, ended up winning. How bad was it?
Turn 1) Gaea's Cradle. Go.
Turn 2) Gaea's Cradle. Whoops, both of them go to the graveyard.
Turn 3) Oh hey a Forest. I think I'll drop a one mana elf.
I eventually got the mana to play a Pernicious Deed, and thanks to the two free land in the graveyard on the other side of the field, got a cheap 5/5 Terravore afterwards.

I've managed to generate the uncontrolled life gain in a very simple layout. I've included a gauntlet save with a Forest in play, a Genesis in the graveyard, and, a single land on the AI side. As soon as the game loads up, I begin gaining life with any action I take.

Hope it helps--I'd hate to remove the card from my deck. :)

Interesting update on the Genesis / life gain issue. I was playing a match where I had one in the graveyard and I started to gain life, but as soon as I used its ability to bring it out of the graveyard, the life gain stopped.

Yeah, I can confirm that Genesis does the same thing Squee does for me. All I did was put a Genesis and Nantuko Husk into play, sacrificed both, then suddenly had 160 life.

Oddly enough, I tried the same with Nether Shadow. Burying four of them had no effect on my life total whatsoever.

Hmmmm, I got no bug from the Genesis save game or subsequent debug tests with it either. It does make some sense that Genesis is similarly affected though: there used to be a bug (fixed long ago), where an active Genesis or Squee would cause your maximum hand size to reduce by 1 every turn.

OK, a couple of questions:
1. Can anyone verify which update these issues began occuring with? I assume it is one of the most recent ones, or has this been a long-term problem?
2. Which version of the game did you install before updating to Manalink 2.0? Check http://www.slightlymagic.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=898 for options.

This is a pretty difficult one for me, because I have yet to experience the error, so it may take some time to get a handle on what is going on. Also, I believe jatill is also on vacation at the moment, so it will be a while before anything is fixed anyway.

Thanks for the posts and uploads guys. I hope we can get this sorted out!

EDIT: RE: Legendary bug: I tried a debug game, where I first emptied the AI's hand, then debugged a Cradle into play for them. On their draw step, I debugged a Ravenous Rats for me (broken!), then put another Cradle in it's hand, which it then proceded not to play. Weirdly, when it drew it's next card (an island, as my debug deck is 40 islands), it refused to play that either... If anyone is interested, can you try a similar setup in debug mode? Just curious if the AI will play the Cradle for you. Although, TBH, I find that the AI will play differently in some debugged situations than in normal games somehow...

Anyway, will test some more and log on after work. #-o

Finally was able to find a game with consistent crash from PoR:

http://rapidshare.com/files/257936321/bug.E1G.html

It's a gauntlet game but it should be ok. After loading the game, you need to enable debug mode and remove Angel of Serra Avatar card from the game because it will shuffle your deck and PoR is just the next card.
Casting PoR on any of the 4 mobs (2 Eternal Witnesses, 1 Rubinia and 1 BoP) and making him attack will cause game to crash, please let me know if this bug occur on your game.

I also attempted to debug Gaea's Cradles into the AI's hand, and it refused to play them, even when I gave them a Wall of Ice so it would produce mana if they did play it. Weird.

I am unable to save/load games, and have been unable since upgrading to 2.0. I'm using windows 7; maybe this is why? Anyway, any attempt to save causes a crash, and clicking on load causes the program to close immediately.

Hey guys, thatnks for the posts. I'm sorry, I have been busy the past few days and have not had much time to reply or test. An update will be coming in the next few days.

@jackthelad: If an error occurs in Gauntlet mode, you can concede the game. There will be a save file at Magic\SaveGame\Autosave.E1G. Normally you can then reload the savegame and start from the beginning of that turn, but it sounds like you can't load games either :(

Hello, I'm new. I don't know if it's a bug, but when I played Viridian Shaman the game asked me to destroy an artifact but there were no artifact in play and I couldn't skip it (there were the message: Select target artifact). I had to cheat and insert into the game an artifact with the debug mode in order to destroy it and continue.
Anyway thanks a lot for what you are doing to this great game.
