Problems in Making a New Deck / Using Editors

Postby Khrone » 10 Jan 2016, 21:49

Cheers,

Stupidly enough, I only just noticed the existance of the EDH format, and then decided to try it out. Then I decided to make some EDH decks myself.

In order to start, I tried copying the Commander 2015 official line-up, starting from the Black-White deck.

First, I tried with the standard Deck Editor.
It didn't go well.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I just can't seem to find some cards when searching. I know I must "just type" and then the list goes to the relative cards, but some of them altoghether just won't show up. (Is the infamous "2000 card limit" problem involved? I don't know.)

So I tried with the "Deck Editor 2.0".
It didn't go well.
Whatever I try, it just won't start. Runtime error. Everytime. I followed the advice on the wiki: "leave it be".

So I tried with DeckCard Analyzer 0.5
It went somewhat better...? I don't know.
For "cards.dat" I chose the one inside the Manalink folder (of course I have the last Return to Zendikar), then Import PlayDeck, then NetDeck. There I copypasted the cards list, made it good, Converted and Saved the deck inside the Manalink's "PlayDeck" folder (altough the PlayDeck folder chosen for Analyzer is its own) and closed (did not use any Rebuild function).
Back again to Manalink, I tried looking for the newly made deck in the deck list for a Duel, but it didn't show up.
I then tried looking for it with the Deck Editor and there it was. Opened it, everything shows up just fine (even the cards I couldn't find before - interest fact: they have no artwork showing up, but the card text is fine), then I added the EDH Card and adjusted the deck in order to have 105 cards, 5 of which are copies of the Commander. Saved from the Deck Editor as a new deck.

Well, again it doesn't show up in Duel mode.

So here I am looking for advice: what am I doing wrong in order to create this new deck?

Bonus Question: is there a better way to make decks? Because I can't seem to be able to find one.

Do you have the latest update which is BFZ?
If you have issue with artwork that mean your game is not properly patched.

One method to make EDH work:
You need to start Manalink 3.0, then use the ingame Deck Editor, then have 99 cards singleton, a Commander choosen x 4 and the EDH special card

For PDA, you need to select the file Manalink.csv which is in the magic_updater folder to make it up to date.
For Netdeck, I would say that PDA is the fastest if you just copy paste from website like TappedOut or MTG Salvation.

Else, you have to rely only on the ingame Deck Editor because you need to know the ID of each card you add in your game.

If I have understand correctly he just assumes all cards have been coded, which of course isn't true and that is why he can't find some cards for the deck he is trying.Khrone which cards you couldn't find?

Just a few examples:

Daxos the Returned
Bastion Protector
Corpse Augur
Banshee of the Dread Choir
Grave Peril

there's more but if these are uncoded maybe all the others are.

I thought these were all right because the deck I made with NetDeck (using Analyser) could be opened just fine with the In-Game Deck Editor and the cards all showed up with the correct text (altough with no card art, as already explained).

I assume you're saying that even if a card appears this way it's still not assured that it has been coded in the game, so the game doesn't show the deck because it knows it is not playable?

None of the cards you mention are coded in Manalink.3.0.
You probbaly have enabled show all cards in deck editor that is why you see the cards but not with art and decks are not showing to be selected in duel and gauntlet.

That's exactly what I wanted to know.

So I'm not doing anything wrong with the deckmaking itself, the error is that I'm trying to use not-yet-coded cards, which cannot be used, thus the deck not showing.

Guess I have to be patient, then.

Thanks to you all guys.

PDA should have warned you that some cards in your deck are uncoded, there is a notice at the end of the conversion process and a log is created, something like that :

In the case above, Thunderbreak Regent is uncoded so it need to be replaced to validate the deck, however the card will still show in the ML3 ingame editor but the game won't process it in the duel option.

That is why PDA need to be up to date with the latest csv file.
